Costner’s professional and personal lives have made the headlines for the better part of 2023, and the star ofYellowstoneis currently starring in the all-too-real drama of his own life. Personally, the actor took part in a hearing today (Friday, September 1) to determine whether the $129,000 worth of child support for his children should be increased by $46,000 for a total of $175,000 (perPeople). Professionally, Costner finally addressed the questions revolving aroundYellowstone.
According toDeadline, Costner said — while testifying — that he’ll “probably go to court” as a result of the way things went down with the Paramount Network series. The second half ofYellowstone’sfifth season was supposed to pick up over the summer, but that’s before the Costner controversy began. Long story short, Costner didn’t return to the Dutton Ranch, and now he’s finally speaking out on the subject. Costner said per the same report:

“We did negotiate. There were issues about creative… I tried to break the logjam. They walked away.”
From Costner’s point-of-view, the actor tried to negotiate with Taylor Sheridan and the producers. The former star ofYellowstonealso revealed that he’d been offered a total of $24 million to play John Dutton in not only season five, but that salary was also for his acting services in a sixth and seventh season of the Paramount Network and Paramount+ series.

The actor finally spoke out about the controversy that’s remained a hot topic online since it was revealed the second half of season five would be put on hold indefinitely. While in court for a child support hearing today, Costner spoke out and revealed his version of how things went down with Taylor Sheridan and the producers of the Paramount Network show. Costner said in the same report:
“Somewhere along the line, they wanted to change things. They wanted to do 5A [first half of season five] and 5B [second half of season five]; [it] affected Horizon [Warner Bros. film]. I was going to do my movie Horizon and leave that show, do my movie, then do B. A show I was only doing once a year I was now doing twice.”
As for the future ofYellowstone, it isn’t a long one. The show, created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson,will end after the second half of season five. What comes next will be a sequel, spin-off series starring Matthew McConaughey as the show’s lead.
