Kevin Smithmay be one of the biggest comic book nerds around, but when it comes to the idea of stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a director? He has a very definite view on the subject, and it isn’t to leap for joy at the idea.
Smith’s body of work has mostly been focused on low-budget movies that are, by his own description, “Kevin Smith movies” that “nobody wants to make.” For that reason, the idea of getting behind the camera to make a Marvel movie is a completely ridiculous idea, as he explained in a recent interview withCollider.

“Everyone’s like, ‘Do you want to make a Marvel movie?’ F*cking never. What in my body of work has ever made anyone think, ‘He’d be good for that sort of visual spectacle.’ I’m put on this Earth to make Kevin Smith movies, if anything, and most critics will argue that I’m not even put on this earth to do that. But nobody wants to make Kevin Smith movies except me, so that’s my lane, and I love staying in it.”
Kevin Smith Announces Resurrection of His Most Controversial Movie
“The movie that was once banned is back, and it’s never looked better!”
However, that doesn’t mean the actor would not jump at the chance to be part of theMCUin a different way – as a character. Continuing, he said:

“If [Marvel] was like, ‘We want you to play … anybody. One scene — a f*cking bad guy, a good guy.” Oh my god […] That’s what I’d be more interested in. Because that would be fun, and none of the responsibility would be mine.”
Kevin Smith Has Some Fan-Pleasing Projects Cooking
Kevin Smith has been making movies with a certain feel to them for his entire career.Clerks, Mallrats, Jay & Silent Bobmovies…and he certainly isn’t done yet. His last release,The 4:30 Movie, was another quiet little hitfor the director thanks to his knack for making films on a shoestring. After releasingClerks IIIa few years ago, there are now two sequels that Smith’s long-term fans are really hoping for.
Smith has been teasing a sequel toMallratsfor several years, and following the death of original star Shannen Doherty, the film’s future was uncertain. However, Smith has previously said that he wants to honor Doherty’s memory by still making the film, tentatively titledTwilight of the Mallrats.

Also now on the distant horizon is the chance thatDogma 2could finally happen after more than 25 years, withSmith finally regaining control over his 1999 cult classic, which will be getting a theatrical re-release soon. However, as Smith recently toldScreenRant, there is a lot of expectation on his shoulders, and he doesn’t want to mess it up.
“I can’t fcking afford to ruin a Dogma spinoff. Too many people fcking love this movie, so I can’t make that same movie again, because I don’t have the same faith. I do want to [reassure] those cats who love Dogma that are like, ‘Oh, he’s gonna fcking ruin it,’ and, ‘I saw Clerks 3, fck him!'”
