Following reports that test screenings for James Gunn’sSupermanreboot have been worryingly negative, a new report has arrived to add some confusion to the situation. According to an insider source viaComicbookmovie.com, not only have the reactions to the Man of Steel’s latest big screen adventure been a lot more positive than first-thought, the DCU movie has even been compared toone of the best movies in the MCU.
Recent reports from Hollywood insiders John Rocha and Jeff Sneider have suggested thatSupermantest screenings have not been going well, with the former saying those in attendance have compared the DC outing to the likes ofCaptain America: The First AvengerandThe Mummy, while the latter claimed that the “buzz is not good” and that he’s been “hearing bad things."

Now, something far more positive has emerged, with a mysterious new insider revealing that theSupermanfeedback has been far more positive than this, with the movie even being described as “Guardians of the Galaxy-level good.” The new report continues, stating that, while some of the VFX remains unfinished, a “lot of the shots were polished enough with seven months to go” and that those in attendance “loved the movie.” While all of these reports about test screenings are merely a rumor at this stage, and with further reports even claiming that no such test screenings have even taken place, this latest insight is sure to have many Superman fans letting out a little sigh of relief.
Aside From Quality, ‘Superman’ Won’t Be Anything Like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
Despite being compared toJames Gunn’s previous MCU effortGuardians of the Galaxy(which, for the record, carries a score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes), Superman is not expected to be anything like the Marvel outing, with the comparison likely to be more about quality rather than tone or style. In fact, James Gunn has revealed that he will beabandoning two of his best-known traitsforSuperman: humor and a kick-ass soundtrack.
“I start with a place that’s very hopeful, fun… but incredibly grounded [and] incredibly serious all at the same time. It’s humorous, but it certainly is not as [comedic] as either Suicide Squad or Guardians. There’s plenty of humor in it. People like Rachel [Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane] are so funny and David [Corenswet, who plays Superman] is very [funny as well], so there’s humor in it, but it’s trying to create something that is grounded, but also it’s an incredibly fanciful world.

There’s nods to [John] Williams and then also John Murphy’s created this incredibly beautiful score. But the one thing is it is a score, it’s not a soundtrack. So it’s not about the songs. There’s a few songs in it. And of course, I chose those songs beforehand, but it isn’t like any of my previous movies really in terms of the score is what drives it. It’s a much, much more of a score film.”
