Months after we first reported that CBS is developing a newMacGyverTV series withFurious 7directorJames Wan, the network has finally found their leading man.Deadlinereports thatX-Men: ApocalypsestarLucas Tillhas signed on to play the title character Angus McGyver, with Joshua Boone (Fan Girl) also joining the cast. The project will be a modern-day re-imagining of the original 1985TV series, featuring a much younger protagonist.

The plot will follow a “twentysomething” Angus MacGyver, who is recruited into the clandestine organization from the original series, known as the Department of External Services (DXS). The title character uses his unique skill set for solving problems with bizarre and unconventional methods, to help prevent disasters before they happen. The initial report from October revealed that producers wanted the newMacGyverto be roughly 10 years younger than Richard Dean Anderson was on the original MacGyver series, with this new version expected to shed light on howMacGyveracquired some of these infamous skills.

25-year-oldLucas Tillis exactly 10 years younger than Richard Dean Anderson was when he started the series in 1985. Joshua Boone is playing Gunner,McGyver’s best friend from high school. BothLucas Tilland Joshua Boone join George Eads, who signed on earlier this month to play Lincoln, a compassionate government employee and eccentric conspiracy theorist. It isn’t known how many other maincharactershave yet to be cast in the series at this time.

Our report from October revealed that R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles) was originally set to write the pilot script. He has since been replaced byPaul Downs Colaizzoand Brett Mahoney, with David Von Ancken set to direct the pilot episode. The writers and director will also serve as executive producers withJames Wan,Henry Winkler, who produced the original series, Michael Clear and the original series creator Lee David Zlotoff. It isn’t known when shooting on the pilot will begin.
