Margot Robbiemay not be reprising the role of Harley Quinn in the upcomingJoker: Folie á Deux, but she remains excited about the iconic DC villain’s future. The sequel, which is being developed as a musical, welcomes back Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and introducesLady Gagaas Quinn. During the premiere ofBabylon, Robbie’s latest film the actress and producerspoke with ETabout Gaga stepping into Quinn’s boots.

“I think she’s going to do an amazing job. I’m so excited, it’s all I could’ve ever hoped for Harley was that she would become one of those characters, kinda like Batman or Hamlet, that gets handed from actor to actor, everyone gets a go at playing them,” Robbie told ET. “So, I think it’s just credit to her as a character that people want to see her in multiple iterations. I’m excited.”

Robbie famously portrayed Quinn inSuicide Squad,Birds of PreyandThe Suicide Squad. Earlier this month, the actress and producer told Variety that she had pushed for a romantic relationship between Quinn and Poison Ivy for years.

Lady Gaga is a global superstar and 13-time Grammy Award winner who made her acting debut in 2013 withMachete Kills. In 2015, she joined theAmerican Horror Storyfamily, appearing in two seasons of the popular anthology series (American Horror Story: HotelandAmerican Horror Story: Roanoke). Most notably, the actress starred in 2018 remake ofA Star is Born, opposite Bradley Cooper. The film went on to receive multiple award nominations, including for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Critics praised Gaga’s portrayal of Ally. Most recently, Gaga portrayed Patrizia Reggiani in Ridley Scott’sHouse of Gucci. It will be a while before audiences are able to watchJoker: Folie à Deux, as it is scheduled for a 2024 release.

Robbie hits the big screen later this month in Damien Chazelle’s highly-anticipated period filmBabylon. She stars as Nellie LaRoy, a young starlet looking to make it big in 1920s Hollywood.Babylonalso stars Tobey Maguire, Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jean Smart and Olivia Wilde. It premieres December 23.

FollowingBabylon, Robbie will fill the shoes of the world’s most famous doll. She stars as the titular character in Greta Gerwig’sBarbie, which is scheduled for release next July.An official trailerfor the film, which co-stars Ryan Gosling as Ken, dropped earlier this week.
