Earlier this month, we reported thatAsa Butterfieldhad reportedly been cast as the newSpider-Man, although that report was never confirmed. Today we have word that Marvel and Sony Pictures have narrowed down their casting search to six actors, who all screen tested for the role in Atlanta this weekend. Atlanta is where Marvel’sCaptain America: Civil Waris currently shooting, the movie that the newSpider-Manis expected to turn up in first before the stand aloneSpider-Manhits theaters in the summer of 2017. The six final contenders areAsa Butterfield,Tom Holland, Judah Lewis (Point Break), Matthew Lintz (Pixels),Charlie Plummer(Not Fade Away) andCharlie Rowe(Walking with Dinosaurs: The Movie).

Asa ButterfieldandTom Hollandwere previously rumored as the top candidates, but this is the first we’re hearing about the other four actors being in the mix for the coveted role of Peter Parker. The actors all tested for producersKevin Feige,Amy PascalandCaptain America: Civil WardirectorsAnthony RussoandJoe Russo. The filmmakers narrowed down their search to these six actors after seeing over 1,500 actors from around the world, narrowing down the selection to just six over the past two weeks.

The newSpider-Manis expected to kick off a new trilogy, which will be set during Peter Parker’s high school years. The new film will avoid the origin story, starting off with Peter Parker already established asSpider-Man.
