Way back in July 2014, fivenew photoswere released forMax Steel, along with commentary from directorStewart Hendler. At the time, the movie was set to be released in 2015, but that was the last we’ve heard from this adaptation, until now. Today we have the first international trailer forMax Steel, starringBen Winchellas the title character, and the movie has been given an October 21 release date.
While no reason was given for the movie’s delay, its newrelease datefalls during one of the busiest weekends of the year. As of now, there are six other movies already slated to open in wide release. Paramount will roll outJack Reacher: Never Go Back, along with Lionsgate’sBoo! A Madea Halloween, Focus’A Monster Calls, 20th Century Fox’sKeeping Up With the Joneses, Universal’sOuija: Origin of Eviland PureFlix’sI’m Not Ashamed. Also opening that weekend in limited release are highly-anticipated indies such asIn the Valley of Violence,American Pastoral,The HandmaidenandMoonlight.
Based on a toy and animated series, the film chronicles the adventures of 16-year oldMax McGrath(Winchell) and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superheroMax Steel. As these two unlikely friends struggle to accept their oddly connected fates, they begin to uncover unimaginable secrets, working together to find the truth, and fighting the mysterious forces threatening their world. United as the superhero Max Steel, they must combat an alien menace and unlock the secrets of their past.
The cast also includesAndy Garciaas Dr. Miles Edwards,Maria Belloas Molly McGrath andJosh Breneras the voice of Steel. The supporting cast is rounded out byAna Villafane,Mike Doyle,Phillip DeVona,Billy Slaughter,Al MitchellandLawrence Kao. This international trailer first surfaced onYouTube, but we’re not sure when a domestic trailer will arrive from Open Road Films.
Stewart Hendler(Sorority Row) is directing from a script byChristopher Yost(Thor: Ragnarok), based on the hit animated series and Mattel toy line Production started onMax Steelway back in April 2014, but now it seems that, after some lengthy delays, fans will finally get to seeMax Steelon the big screen.
