InNational Treasure, starring Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger, the Gates family goes on a series of epic quests to retrieve missing American historical documents. The original 2004 film was such a massive success that it spawned another sequel in 2007 titledNational Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, which saw the Gates family searching for answers to a family conspiracy theory involving the assignation of President Abraham Lincoln.
It has been 16 years since the last installment, yet fans of the series have never stopped anticipating another film. However, the wait is finally over, as the film’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced earlier this year that the script has already been written; all that awaits is actor Nicholas Cage’s approval. Just recently, in December of this year,National Treasureco-star Justin Bertha confirmed the news of a script and added that the series director and screenwriter Jon Turteltaub had been approached but, like Cage, had yet to give a definitive answer on his involvement. As for Bartha, he added at the time that if asked, there was no doubt he would say yes to reprising his role as Riley Poole.
Fast-forward to December 2022, and Bruckheimer’s confirmed to multiple sources that the series has gone beyond the script stage and is now in development. In an interview withE! News, Bruckheimer recently referred to working on a third film installment, saying, “Let’s just say there are 47 reasons to be interested.”

When Will National Treasure: Edge of History Season 2 be Announced?
In early December 2022, The Disney Plus network treated fans old and new of theNational Treasurefilms to a television series titledNational Treasure: Edge of History. The show centers around a new protagonist, Jess Valenzuela. Her life becomes chaotic when a mysterious stranger hints at a centuries-old treasure that could be related to her long-deceased father. Jess has a knack for uncovering mysteries and has her abilities tested when she and her pals investigate a series of clues hidden in the depths of some of America’s most prolific antiques and monuments.
The series stars Lisette Olivera as Jess, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Billie, an antiquities dealer, and Lyndon Smith as Agent Ross. Veteran National Treasure star Justin Bartha makes several appearances as Riley Poole in the series, and Jon Turteltaub also returns as executive producer. Despite its relative success, Disney Plus has yet to confirm when the series will return, but it seems likely to be renewed, as does an appearance by Nicolas Cage.
