Screamis one of the most belovedhorrorfranchises of all time, with the series taking in over $604 million worldwide. There has been talk of ending the saga withScream 5, but we haven’t heard anything about the sequel since 2013. DirectorWes Cravenpassed away back in August, which doesn’t bode well for a follow-up to 2011’sScream 4. While we don’t know if this slasher finale will ever come together,Entertainment Weeklyrecently caught up withNeve Campbell, who says she would be open to returning as Sidney Prescott inScream 5, depending on who the studio brings aboard as a director.
“Weswas so responsible for the success of it and the brilliance of it, and he was a dear, dear friend and a mentor, and I just don’t know how I would feel at the moment if it came around again. It would have to be something really special and really different. They’d have to be really convincing about who they decided to bring on as director, and I’d still have to do a bit of soul-searching on that one.”
Back in October 2013, Dimension Films presidentBob Weinsteinrevealed that he was “begging"Wes Cravento come back and directScream 5to end the series, so they could focus on theScreamTV series, which was renewed for a second season on MTV last year. We haven’t heard anything about thesequelsince then, and it isn’t known if Dimension Films even has a screenplay written for the project or not. It isn’t known ifNeve Campbell’s co-stars would return for the follow-up as well.
Back inApril 2011, just before the release ofScream 4, directorWes Cravenrevealed that the sequel is intended to be the start of a new trilogy. The director alsotold usin September 2011 thatScream 5is definitely happening, although that was the last we have heard about the sequel until now.Scream 4earned just $38.1 million at the domestic box office, and $97.1 million worldwide, from a $40 million budget.
