A new action figure fromCaptain Marvelseemingly confirms that Jude Law is actually playing Yon-Rogg. There has been a bit of back and forth about Law’s role in the upcoming movie since it was announced that the actor had joined the cast. It was originally thought that he was playing Mar-Vell, but a Funko Pop! figure had him labeled as Yon-Rogg, which sent Marvel Cinematic Universe fans on a hunt for answers, but his name was later changed to Star Commander. Adding another twist is the fact that Funko just unveiled new images of the Pop! figure and it’s back to Yon-Rogg.
Confusing the matter even more was the fact that just last week, Disney’s official site for the movie featured a picture ofJude Lawand Brie Larson together with a caption that named him “Mar-Vell, the leader of Starforce,” which was promptly taken down and simply replaced with “Leader of Starforce.” Now, a another new action figure package goes back to Yon-Rogg. The figure in question is from theCaptain MarvelMarvel Legends collection and a screenshot of the back of the packaging reveals the name, along with some other interesting information about the movie.
The description on the box for the Yon-RoggCaptain Marvelaction figure reads pretty close to what Jude Law has been saying over the past few months about his role. The description reads: “Leader of the Starforce team,Yon-Roggis a hero among the Kree and a key asset in the Supreme Intelligence’s war against the Skrulls.” However, this is the first time that the Supreme Intelligence has been talked about in any official capacity for the movie. In the comics, the Supreme Intelligence is AI that is made up from the brains of the greatest Kree leaders and scientists. The elite Kree had their minds uploaded to the system before their deaths and it looks like they could be the ones behind theKree and Skrull war. It also means that they could be the main villain in the movie.
This new information about Jude Law’s character has some hardcore MCU fans speculating that he might be playing more than one character inCaptain Marvel. Disney’s big reveal last week could have been a mistake, but all of this back and forth has many believing that Law could be playing bothMar-Velland Yon-Rogg, which would be a pretty big plot twist. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has said in the past that they have taken the Carol Danvers story and tweaked it a bit for the big screen and Law’s role in the project could be one big misdirect.
When it comes down to it, there really isn’t any concrete evidence that Jude Law will play both characters inCaptain Marvel. For now, it looks like he will be Yon-Rogg and that he might have trickedCarol Danversinto fighting for the Kree. That has not been officially confirmed at this time, but it certainly looks like both alien races might not be looking out for Earth’s best interests when all is said and done.
