Yesterday, it was confirmed that production has begun onSpider-Man: Homecoming, with the first photos surfacing from the set, featuring starsTom Holland,Zendaya ColemanandTony Revlori. Today marks the second day of production, and we have already seen new photos surface featuringTom Holland, which reveal a particularly interesting detail about the young Peter Parker. We know that this movie will feature Parker in high school, but now we know exactly what high school he’s going to.
The latest photos surfaced fromJust Jared, which showTom Hollandwalking outside wearing a sweatshirt that reads “Midtown School of Science & Technology.” In the Marvel comics, Peter Parker/Spider-Manattends Midtown High School, but in the 2012 rebootThe Amazing Spider-Man, the school was changed to Midtown Science High School. We don’t know for sure why Marvel and Sony didn’t change it back to Midtown High School quite yet, or if there is a stronger connection between the two reboots.
We got our first glimpse at Spidey in action in last month’sCaptain America: Civil War, where Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) recruited Peter to fight for Team Iron Man.Robert Downey Jr.has also signed on to return as Tony Stark, so perhaps it’s possible that Stark has some connection to Midtown School of Science & Technology, but that remains to be seen. We can see inCaptain America: Civil Warthat Peter is truly gifted, so it would make sense to have him in a more advanced school.
While we haven’t received any official plot details yet, it has been rumored thatSpider-Man: Homecomingwill kick off a new trilogy that is set completely withinPeter Parker’s high school years. The story will reportedly follow Peter as he tries to balance his school work with fighting crime all over New York City. We don’t know how large or small a role Tony Stark/Iron Man will have in this movie, but there has been speculation that other Marvel heroes could show up as well.
