Earlier this month, we reportedthatThe Muppetsare finally coming back to the small screen with a new TV series on ABC that is set behind-the-scenes of a late-night talk show. Today we have new details fromEntertainment Weekly, which reveal that the show will offer more insight into the personal lives of these characters, and it will be shot in the mockumentary format, similar to hit shows such asThe OfficeandArrested Development. The site also reports that ABC is considering a straight-to-series order based on the pilot presentation alone.

The currently untitled show, which hails fromThe Big Bang Theoryco-creatorBill PradyandAnger Managementwriter-producer Bob Kushell, is said to be a “more adult” series than previous incarnations ofThe Muppets. Take a look at the official logline from ABC below.

“The Muppetsreturn to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that-for the first time ever-will exploreThe Muppets' personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.”

ABC didn’t confirm the report from earlier this month that revealed the show centered on aMuppets Late Nighttalk show, but it certainly seems like a viable setting to explore these beloved characters' lives both on and off the job. The site also said that the show is being compared to30 Rock, which is set at a television network, so the late night show setting could certainly be in play. Tying into the adult themes, the site also reports that the show will delve into “soap” territory, such as ABC’s hit programsScandalandGrey’s Anatomy. Of course, if the show is actually set at a late-night talk show, the possibilities for celebrity cameos, a trademark ofThe Muppetson both the big and small screens, are seemingly endless.
