Last month, Lionsgate’sPower Rangershad an interesting presence at Comic-Con, with the main cast members doing press for the movie in San Diego, and Lionsgate showcasing the helmets andpower coins, although no footage was revealed. It still isn’t known when we’ll see the first trailer for this highly-anticipated action-adventure, hitting theaters July 04, 2025, but today we have new details from directorDean Israelite. The filmmaker, who made his directing debut with last year’sProject Almanac, revealed that he had just has many questions about the property as the fans did when this project was announced.

While Lionsgate still hasn’t released any officialplot detailsyet, there have been plenty of rumors swirling around this project. Early rumors claimed that the story starts 65 million years ago, with thePower Rangersof that era battling Rita Repulsa, who was sent through a black hole, only to return in present day. Those details haven’t been confirmed yet, but Empire spoke with directorDean Israelite, who discusses the new suits and how he tried to make this story more grounded.

“I grew up on it and I have all the same questions other people have. How are we going to update this? How will it exist in the contemporary superhero cinema canon? (I) tried to add naturalism and a grounded nature. [It is] character-driven. We’ve made the suits practically with Weta Workshop, with new cutting-edge tech.”

ThePower Rangers castis made up of up and coming young actors such asBecky Gas Yellow Ranger Trini,Ludi Linas Black Ranger Zack,Dacre Montgomeryas Red Ranger Jason,Naomi Scottas Pink Ranger Kimberly, andRJ Cyleras Blue Ranger Billy, all of whom will do battle withElizabeth Banks' Rita Repulsa. This new update of thePower RangersTV show follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove, and the world, is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as thePower Rangersbefore it is too late. The cast also includesBryan Cranstonas the iconic Zordon, thePower Rangers' mentor, withDean Israeliteteasing thatBryan Cranstonwas quite skeptical about taking on his role before signing on.

“Like everybody, [Cranston] was skeptical, but he saw a bunch of footage and got excited for the potential. I think it’ll be a thrill for fans to see what we’re doing withZordon.”

Power Rangerswill be going up against Warner Bros.‘King Arthur and the Legend of the Swordwhen it hits theaters on March 24.Dean Israelitealso recently confirmed that this reboot will bring backAlpha 5, Dinozords and the original theme song. In the original show, Alpha 5 was Zordon’s robotic assistant, and the Dinozords were the dinosaur vehicles that thePower Rangerswould use. We’ll have to wait and see if Zordon, Alpha 5 or the Dinozords will be featured in the first trailer, so stay tuned for that.
