An alien abduction movie so distorting and vague that many people quickly jump on the train to watch it. Released in 2023, Brian Duffield’sNo One Will Save Youhas been getting people stoked and needing a few minutes sitting in silence to process what they just watched.
A horror movie with barely any dialogue isn’t something entirely new (John Krasinski’sA Quiet Placemovies, for example), butNo One Will Save Youadds that rich layer of vagueness around grief, trauma, and aliens that leaves the audience wondering to themselves, “What was that?”
The story follows Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever), an outcast living in a huge house that belonged to her late mother in a small town. It’s clear from the beginning that she spends her time alone, with herself and with grief that’s been haunting her since her best friend Maude’s (Dari Lynn Griffin) death.
On one particularly dark and eerie night, she is attacked by a humanoid alien in her house, which drives her to see the town in destruction. Brynn tries to leave town, but the aliens always find their way to her — like her guilt and grief that’s sitting on her shoulders.
The film’s ending isthe kind of ending that requires the audience to interpret it their way, so there’s really no 100% right or wrong ending. But, to shed some light, here is the movie’s ending, explained.
What’s With the Aliens?
A big portion of the movie shows Brynn being chased by aliens all over the place — her home, in town, in a bus, even. We’ve seen that the aliens want to grab her, but to do what? Why her? Well, since they are aliens, they want to learn more about Earth, the human race, and other beings in it. In this case, the aliens control the people by planting a bug in their throats.

What makes Brynn special to them, though? It’s established that Brynn is a loner and an outcast, probably the least interesting one in town for them to chase after. But the aliens are drawn to her, and their curiosity peaks about her.
What Happens to Brynn?
Since the moment she is attacked at her home, it has beena thrilling chase between her and the colony of aliens. A large scale of hide and seek between Brynn and the aliens ends as she is captured and beamed up into their aircraft. There, the secrets all reveal themselves — which is what draws them to her in the first place.
The aliens examine Brynn’s memories and find that, in truth, young Brynn actually killed her best friend, Maude, in the middle of an argument. She slammed a rock to Maude’s head, instantly killing her. The grief and guilt that have sat on Brynn’s shoulder ever since aren’t going away because the entire town sees her as a murderer — which explains why she is outcasted.

After successfully planting the throat bug in Brynn, unlike the rest of the town, she is able to continue living her life as if nothing happened. The town becomes the “ideal” version, according to Brynn, where people actually see her and are nice to her.
What Does the Ending Mean?
Brynn returns to her life in town on a more positive note than before allthe aliens craze. She’s happily dancing and living side by side with the townspeople, seemingly having a better relationship with them than before. As we see the bigger picture, the alien’s aircraft are still hovering over the town, abducting and controlling people the same way we saw earlier.
This ending is all about forgiveness. Brynn, the outcasted murderer who never got forgiveness from the townspeople, carries immenseguilt and grieffor years. The aliens, once they see her past and pain, think she’s done her time of suffering alone and give her a second chance — forgiving her and letting her back into society the way she would’ve been treated had she been forgiven much earlier.
After all, Brynn and the aliens have something in common: well, being aliens. Brynn has been an outcast for a large chunk of her life, and the aliens are an outside force that’s learning about Earth and every creature that walks it. In the end, no one will save you, but yourself. And sometimes with the help of aliens.
