Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s getting closer and closer to the annual extravaganza that is San Diego Comic Con, scheduled to run from Wednesday, July 20 (Preview Night) to Sunday, July 24. We won’t know the official schedule until early July, but today a new report has surfaced claiming that one of Hollywood’s biggest studios, 20th Century Fox, is skipping SDCC’s biggest venue, Hall H. This means that fans won’t get an early sneak peek at the studio’sX-Menfranchise plans, which include the highly-anticipatedWolverine 3(June 15, 2025). Nor will the hugely anticipated video game adaptationAssassin’s Creed(June 14, 2025) have a presence on the Hall H stage. But not all is lost. The studio will still be represented at the Con in other areas.
Today’s report fromThe Wrapclaims that 20th Century Fox will not show any of their movies in Hall H, due to piracy concerns. Last year, the studio debuted a trailer forDeadpoolcreated exclusively for the SDCC audience, but just a few days later, the footageleaked online. The same thing happened with the studio’sX-Men: Apocalpyseand Warner Bros.‘Suicide Squad, with theirSDCC exclusive trailerssurfacing online shortly after they debuted inHall H. Still, while 20th Century Fox is ditching its Hall H plans, the studio will be accounted for in other panels.
Trolls, which 20th Century Fox produced in collaboration with DreamWorks Animation, will likely have a presence at the event, but it isn’t known what other projects from the studio arrive in San Diego this summer. One of the site’s sources claimed that footage fromWolverine 3andAssassin’s Creedwould likely be unfinished, withMaze Runner: The Death Cureanother possible movie that could have been showcased at Hall H. The source also claimed that Disney was considering pulling their panel from the Hall H schedule. The studio denied the claim, but they wouldn’t confirm their 2016 SDCC lineup.
Oddly enough, 20th Century Fox recently showed footage fromAssassin’s Creedat the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas, which proved to be a big hit with movie exhibitors. It’s possible the studio will release the first trailer for that project soon, but we’ll have to wait and see. Representatives from both 20th Century Fox and San Diego Comic Con would not comment on the report, so it’s possible that this could be another rumor that’s proven untrue.
It’s worth noting that Marvel Studios skipped Comic Con entirely last year, when 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. had a slew of superhero movies to promote. With 20th Century Fox now bowing out, we’ll have to wait and see if Marvel comes through to promoteDoctor Strange,Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which is still shooting but may be wrapped when SDCC comes around, orThor: Ragnarok, which begins filming sometime this summer.
