Obi-Wan Kenobidebuted on Disney+ today with a show of force. As well as unveiling the mysterious mission that brings Kenobi out of hiding, a well-known ally and a host of new characters, it was the ending of Episode 2 that revealed the first look at the one character everyone has waiting a long time to see return. There will be plenty of spoilers below if you have not seen the first two episodes ofObi-Wan Kenobi.
It was always known thatObi-Wan Kenobiwould feature at least a glimpse of a young Luke Skywalker, but what was not made apparent was that Kenobi’s story would actually be more about Princess Leia Organa, who is kidnapped by bounty hunters to flush out Kenobi. At the end of the first episode, Kenobi has taken up the mission at the request of Bail Organa, played once again by Jimmy Smits, and headed off to save the young girl. However, after rescuing Leia and escaping Reva, an Inquisitor on a personal mission to capture Kenobi, the Jedi discovers that Anakin Skywalker is still alive, which gives a first chilling look atHayden Christensen as the Sith Lord.

Just this first glimpse of Vader floating in a bacta tank, with yellowed eyes and wearing a mask ushering in the sound of that iconic mechanical breathing, has taken the internet by storm. It is something that fans have waited to see for almost two decades, and with that first look, episode 2 ofObi-Wan Kenobihas delivered something huge and set up a week-long wait for the next episode to arrive.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is Filling in Gaps in theStar WarsFranchise
While there has always been an unknown period of time between the events ofRevenge of the Sithand the originalStar Warsfor Kenobi’s character, the first episodes of the series have also revealed that Leia is an important part of this story, something that should perhaps have been obvious from the start.
For many years, there has been no explanation of why Leia sends her distress signal to Kenobi in the originalStar Wars, as until now, her character and Kenobi have never had any connection, with the Jedi’s link always being to Luke. However, Obi-Wan Kenobi has already established exactly where that link now lies, and will no doubt continue to build on their relationship over the series.
With the show starting on a high, it is likely thatObi-Wan Kenobiis going to become another massive success for Lucasfilm on Disney+, and if Kathleen Kennedy’s promise that they are now looking to the future with a host of new movie projects that will be set afterThe Rise of Skywalker, it looks like there is no better time to be aStar Warsfan. Thanks to yesterday’sStar WarsCelebration event, we now know that other shows likeThe Mandalorianseason 3 will be arriving next year, and a new project fromSpider-Man: No Way Homedirector Jon Watts is heading into production soon. The Force, it seems, is very strong indeed right now.
