Peacemakerhas pulled in its first set of critiques on Rotten Tomatoes and has come out ahead of many other DC shows with a solid 90% rating across 29 reviews. In the grand scheme of DC titles spread across HBO Max and The CW, onlyDoom PatrolandStar Girl, with 97% and 94% ratings respectively, have come out ahead of theJames GunndirectedThe Suicide Squadspin-off series, which starsJohn Cenaas Christopher Smith/Peacemaker. If nothing else, the reviews are unanimous in confirming that the craziness seen in the trailers is nothing compared to what is seen in the series itself.
Compared to long-running series likeThe FlashandLegends of Tomorrow, Peacemakermanages to come out on top as both The CW series score 89%, whileSupergirlandSuperman and Loissit just behind that on 88%. However, it should be remembered that this is the first season ofPeacemaker, and the other DC series have had a little while to build some momentum, and of course, the first episode has yet to air, when that score could change massively for better or worse.
While the score seems to have landed solidly with this first round of reviews, TV scores are mostly worked out by how well the show is received with its target audience. It is not always easy to compare one TV show with another when so many variables can influence the scores and cause waves of new reviews when groups of people discover a show for the first time. Whatever future viewers think of the series, there is certainly no denying that James Gunn has a certain something that just makes his projects work, and that is once again very apparent.
Peacemaker Will Need To Deliver On Its Big Promises To Maintain A Good Rating.
Across several trailers and TV spots, as well as clips, stills and teasing by the cast and director Gunn,Peacemakerhas promised violence, bad language, comedy and some big moments which it will now have to deliver on to keep fans onside. If there is one thing that James Gunn is used to after working on theGuardians of the Galaxymovies andThe Suicide Squadthen it is delivering big moments, so we should have no worries on that front.
Gunn has already expressed a wish to return for more Peacemakerif Warner Bros. is happy to greenlight more adventures for the silver-helmeted hero and based on the reception so far, it looks like that could be on the cards. “We have 87 seasons mapped out. Yeah, we’re gonna be doing this until John and I are 150 years old,” Gunn said recently. “But yeah, no we all want to continue. We really want to continue. It was the greatest group of people. Obviously, I was already friends with John and Jenn [Holland], obviously, and Steve Agee. So, it was just, really, a great group of people and I can’t wait to work with them again.”
