At its core, thePitch Perfecttrilogy is about the sisterhood and friendship between the Barden Bellas. Aubrey and Chloe are desperate to recreate their a cappella group after massive humiliation following Aubrey’s incident on stage. To create the best group possible, Chloe and Aubrey go against the previous Bella formula, going with great singers rather than Aubrey’s original list of expectations. However, not everyone is so quick to give themselves to the group, withBeca’s closed-off nature being a large part of the first film. However, asPitch Perfectcontinues, Beca understands she can let the Bellas in while Aubrey agrees to change how the Bellas perform.
In the following movies, the Bellas' bond is already strong. So, there is not as much of a need to show the group learning to bond. They are already close. However, that does not mean thatPitch Perfect 2andPitch Perfect 3don’t find ways to highlight the Bellas' friendship or show that they face conflicts too.ThePitch Perfecttrilogynever suggests that the group’s bond is not essential to all of them, even when they take different paths in life. No matter how different they may be, the movie’s focus on sisterhood grounds the trilogy with a solid heart to the franchise.

10Beca’s Dorm Meeting
Beca’s arrest leads to her being bailed out of jail by her father and an argument with Jesse about her father’s role. But, although Beca finds herself frustrated with Jesse calling Beca’s father, she arrives back in her dorm room to see all the Bellas waiting for her. Although initially surprised at seeing everyone waiting in her dorm room, this is one of the first hints of the girls becoming something more than just a group. While they have started to bond, this is one of the moments that shows that Beca is beginning to make true friends rather than just acquaintances. It is also the first time the Bellas truly discover Beca’s love of creating mash-ups.
9Confession Circle
When Beca rejoins the group, it is right after things have hit a boiling point. The Bellas are fighting, and no one seems to know that much about each other. So, to fix that, the group sits around in a circle, divulging secrets about themselves that no one else knows. While most of them are meant to acknowledge things such as Chloe removing her nodes and Cynthia Rose revealing her gambling problem, Beca’s revelation that she has never had a lot of female friends helps give more depth to her happiness that she has found some. In addition, their group session allows them to talk for the first time and understand each other better.
8Pool Mash-Up
After Aubrey finally gives in to a new set list, Beca brings everyone to the empty pool. Aubrey chooses Bruno Mars’s “Just The Way You Are” to start, and as the Bellas chime in to build the song, Beca adds Nelly’s “Just A Dream” to show how the group can create a mash-up performance. Although they do not do much other than sing at this moment, the arrangement shows how much the group has grown while teasing their potential for the type of performance they can create. This is the first time the Barden Bellas feel entirely in sync as a singing group.

7Performance At Lincoln Center
At the end of all the drama, the Bellas finally have a solid set list to perform at Lincoln Center. It is the stand-out routine but also shows how the group has gone from completely out of sync to undoubtedly in it together. The joke of the group being unable to agree on if they shout on three or after three gets a payoff when they achieve the Bellas handshake in their choreography.Even songs from the Bellas’s original set listget a quick callback in the finale.
6Aubrey’s Retreat
After losing their sound, Chloe brings the Bellas to Aubrey’s retreat to remember their identity. But, it is not all fun and games, even with teambuilding exercises. Sisterhood is not without argument, and the potential of the future and Beca’s secret internship come to a head at the retreat. While seeing the Bellas trying to figure out how to find their way back to their sound is a big part of these scenes, it is also about working through conflict and coming out stronger on the other side.
5Callback To Beca’s Audition
As the retreat ends, the Bellas sit around the campfire, discussing their hopesand worries for the future. But, they do not leave without finding their sound again. As the group discusses what is to come, Chloe breaks out into a rendition of “When I’m Gone,” the same song Beca had auditioned for the Bellas with. Then, as the group all chimes in, they have returned to being in sync.Pitch Perfect 3even has a fun callback to Beca’s audition when Chloe brings a party cup to the aquarium that Beca quickly knocks away.
4The World Competition
The World Competition is exciting because it shows how far the Bellas have come throughout that school year and acknowledges the organization’s past and future. The World Competition is meant to reinstate the Barden Bellas as a group after they are suspended. The future of the Bellas is at stake. However, their past is also heavily recalled through Emily’s mother, Katherine, Aubrey, and the other generations of Bellas that come out to join them on stage during the group’s performance.
3Stacie’s Baby Is Born
Stacie does not have thatbig of a role inPitch Perfect 3. She is pregnant while the rest of the group goes on the USO tour, but video chats with the Bellas after her daughter is born. The Bellas had just been arguing again when Stacie interrupted, and her accidental stopping of the group’s bickering turned out to be for the best reason. The Bellas argue over which of them Stacie named the baby after. However, Stacie’s reveal that she named her daughter Bella for the Barden Bellas is enough to get everyone to agree and get back on the same side.
2Bellas Reveal Positive Futures
With Beca’s future in the music industry on the line, she does not want to move forward without her group. However, they all encourage Beca to take on the solo act and open for DJ Khaled. Although Beca remains on the fence, she does not warm up to the idea until her friends admit their plans for their futures, such as Cynthia Rose’s plan to join the military so that they can pay for flight school, Chloe’s acceptance to vet school, and Amy’s recent discovery of being a millionaire. Everyone has a plan for what to do next, and they are all happy for Beca that she is getting such a massive opportunity.
1Freedom! ‘90 Finale
Although DJ Khaled introduces Beca as a solo act, that does not mean Beca performs alone for long. After starting the song,Beca quickly pulls the Bellas on stage with her for one final performance. This is the chance to introduce Beca to the world as a new artist, but she would not be where she is without her friends, and she has them join her on stage to sing the movie’s final number. Throughout the performance, the group happily hugs each other, and the Bellas quickly give Beca a big group hug when the song is over.
