Predatorfans rejoice! 2022’sPreywas no fluke, and the iconic sci-fi action franchise is now well-and-truly back, with directorDan Trachtenbergreinvigorating the alien warrior once again with this month’sPredator: Killer of Killers. Telling an anthology of stories from across time, Killer of Killers introduces a host of new characters…but could the franchise’s most beloved opponent return in the future? After all, he does love to say he’ll be back…

Thefinal moments ofPredator: Killer of Killersrevealsthat the Yautja keep those who win the battle as trophies, trapping them in suspended animation with the intention of putting them to work again later. Fans will quickly recall thatArnold Schwarzenegger’s character from the 1987 original, Dutch, survived his run-in with a Predator, meaning he could be one of these trophies, and giving the franchise the perfect opportunity to bring him back after all these years. But this is far from just a theory, it’s something that Trachtenberg himself has been thinking about. He revealed recently to Polygon…

‘Predator: Killer of Killers’ Shreds Expectations in an Epic Animated Anthology

Predators hunt a Viking warrior, a spurned samurai and a World War II fighter pilot in an epic animated feature directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

“So the movie was made under the code name Warehouse, as that end moment was in the original idea pitch to the studio, and it felt like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Certainly Arnold, like many others, was a survivor of his story, and one could easily imagine him up there in cryo, along with any other Earth champion of champions from other planets.”

Dan Trachtenberg Is Already Thinking About ‘Predator: Killer of Killers 2’

Of course, it has now been almost 40 years since the now-77-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger threw down with a Yautja. But,if theTerminatorfranchise can find waysto keep bringing him back, there’s no reason why thePredatorseries can’t do it. Perhaps Dutch has been let out of stasis multiple times over the years, killing several Predators along the way, and thus aging over time. Alternatively, the Austrian Oak could be returned to his youth in animated form in aKiller of Killersfollow-up. Though no doubt fans would love to see the action icon make aPredatorcomeback in all his live-action glory.

Speaking of aPredator: Killer of Killers 2, Trachtenberg went on to reveal that this is something he wants to do. Though he continues to approach each new project, including the upcomingPredator: Badlands, as “if this was my only shot.”

“Yeah, certainly. The cool [part] of this movie is that it opens up the door to tell these kinds of stories in different eras, in different places, in different planets — but also, the further adventures of these heroes that we bonded with in a very unique way.”

“Certainly [each of my movies] are being made as if this was my only shot. Everything was thrown into it. Should we be able to do more… Certainly Killer of Killers seizes something, and Badlands [does too]. Hopefully there will be something more, but they don’t rely on the something more. Hopefully they are both cool within their own merits.”
