Following the latest revelations regarding the upcoming sci-fi action sequel,Predator 5, star Amber Midthunder has taken to social media to express her pride over joining the iconic franchise. Several new details have now been officially confirmed, including that the movie will be titledPrey, with Midthunder set to go toe-to-toe with the expert extra-terrestrial hunter.
Directed by10 Cloverfield Lane’sDan Trachtenberg,Preywill be the fifth movie in thePredatorfranchise, with the project set to take audiences back in time, exploring the skull-collection aliens first visit to Earth. “An all-new entry in thePredatorfranchise,Preyis set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago,” a brief description for the movie reads. The sequel, which was rumored to be titledSkulls, will also feature Midthunder as the series' first female lead, with theLegionstar on board to play a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior, setting her on a collision course with one of cinema’s most famous monsters.
Producers John Davis and John Fox recently offered some insight into what fans can expect from thePredatorsequel, with Davis teasing the franchise’sfirst female lead, describing it as something he “always think is interesting.” The duo went on to comparePreyto the grim brutality of the 2015 Academy Award winner,The Revenant. “[Prey] has more akin toThe Revenantthan it does any film in thePredatorcanon,” Davis revealed. “You’ll know what I mean once you see it.“The Revenantwas highly praised for its brutal depiction of its merciless natural surroundings, something which would certainly work well with a man-versus-Predator battle at its center, and will no doubt be something that Midthunder’s Comanche warrior will use to her advantage.
The producing pair then compared the movie to the very first (and most well-regardedPredatorouting), even claiming that it will, for the first time in the franchise, measure up to the Arnold Schwarzenegger original. “It goes back to what made the originalPredatormovie work,” Davis explained. “It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force,” he added. “It’s going to be, I believe, the second best – or the first… or it may be equal to the first one. Right? I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie and I know what worked about it,” he continued. “I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It’s going to be as good.”
Preyis scheduled to be released exclusively to the streaming serviceHuluin summer 2022, seemingly without a theatrical release from the studio. This comes to us fromAmber Midthunder’sofficial Instagram account.
