After months of speculation, Marvel finally confirmed that theirspinoff series,The Punisheris actually happening.Jon Bernthal, who made his MCU debut as Frank Castle in Season 2 ofDaredevil, has been confirmed to return asThe Punisher, withSteve Lightfoot(Hannibal) serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series' first two episodes. While little else is known about the upcoming show, it seems that Marvel and Netflix are prepping the show to debut next year.

Last week, aTwitteruser dubbed “KyleLillyKyle” posted a photo of a listing on Netflix for thisPunisher series, which offers a very brief synopsis and teases that it will debut in 2017. The Twitter user revealed that he came across this entry while searching for Marvel on Netflix. Here’s the brief plot description for this upcoming series below.

“After the murder of his family,Frank Castleis both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he’ll become known asThe Punisher.”

Oddly enough, after the rumors first started to spread earlier this year, Marvel Television’sJeph Loebsaid that thePunisherseries wasn’t actually happening, but just two months later, the show was officially announced. It’s been nearly four months since Marvel and Netflix confirmed the show is actually happening, but we haven’t had any updates since then. We don’t know when production will begin on this show, or what characters need to be cast.

The Punishermarks the sixth series ordered thus far as part of the groundbreaking collaboration between Marvel Television and Netflix including the upcomingLuke Cage,Iron Fist,The Defendersand the Peabody Award-winningJessica Jones.The Punisheris produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
