We reported earlier today that the rash of creepy clown sightings all across America has lead to McDonald’s sidelining their beloved mascotRonald McDonald, as this phenomena continues. The bizarre trend has even spread to the U.K., with clowns showing up in the town of Whitehaven, in the U.K. county of Cumbria. Today we have word that a Dark Knight has showed up to stop them. An unidentified man has been dressing up as Batman to scare away these clowns, and it seems this tactic is actually working.

The news broke onBBC Cumbria’s Facebook, which reveals that a group known as Cumbria Superheroes has responded to the rash of clown sightings around town. The site even posted a photo of this unidentified man dressed asThe Dark Knightchasing down one of these clowns, but no further details were given about this encounter. The site also shared a photo of a Facebook message sent to “Batman” from an unidentified child, who wanted to thank the hero for protecting him/her. Take a look at this young child’s message below.

“I have been scared of thisclown situation(school told us about it yesterday). I seen on my mammy fb [Facebook] that you caught the clown. This means I can go to school and not be scared, thank you for your efforts.”

A separate report claimed that there have been dozens ofcreepy clownsightings sightings in Cumbria, where people dressed in clown masks lay in wait, jumping out in front of strangers and scaring them on the street. One such incident reportedly traumatized a seven-year-old boy, while other incidents have involved two teenage girls who were threatened, along with a mother with her baby in a stroller. Some of these clowns have been seen wielding fake knives and blocks of wood.

When these clown sightings first started to surface in South Carolina this August, many thought it was a viral stunt for the movie adaptation ofStephen King’sIT, but that rumor was shot down. There has even been a murder linked to this phenomenon, with a 29-year-old Pennsylvnia man stabbing a 16-year-old boy to death, who had reportedly been wearing a clown mask similar toThe Purgemovies. Perhaps we may seeBatmanstep up in the United States to stop this clown plague as well. Take a look at the Facebook post from BBC Cumbria below.
