Our Flag Means DeathandFlight of the ConchordsstarRhys Darbyleads the upcoming science fiction comedyRelax, I’m from the Future, for which a new trailer for this seemingly perfect blend of comedy and sci-fi has now been unveiled. Coming courtesy of Blue Fox Entertainment, Darby stars as Casper, a time traveler trapped in the past who befriends Holly, a jaded drifter. They exploit his knowledge of the future, oblivious to the consequences they have set in motion, while a more competent time traveler, Doris, tries to stop them. “Relax, I’m from the Future follows Casper, a charming, but embarrassingly underprepared Time Traveler, now trapped in the past,” the official synopsis reads. It continues:

“When he befriends Holly, a jaded drifter, she helps him exploit his trivial knowledge of the future for a series of quick payouts, oblivious to the consequences they have set in motion. When Doris, a more competent Time Traveler, tracks them down, Casper and Holly are forced to figure out exactly what they mean to each other and whether the future they’ve threatened is even worth saving. Will they embrace their fate, or do they have the courage to change it?”
Starring Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords, What We Do in the Shadows), Gabrielle Graham (In the Shadow of the Moon), Janinie Theriault (Pompeii) and Julian Richings (Man of Steel),Relax, I’m From the Futureis the feature directorial debut of Luke Higginson, who also wrote the screenplay and edited the film. The feature length film is in factbased on Higginson’s short filmof the same name that premiered at TIFF a decade ago.

Relax, I’m From the Future Has a Promising 88% On Rotten Tomatoes
A lucky few have already had the chance to bask in the sci-fi hilarity ofRelax, I’m from the Future. And they very much liked what they saw. The movie currently has a hugely promising rating of 88% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the mix of genres and the colorful cast of characters.
Katie Hogan ofFILMHOUNDS MagazinegivesRelax, I’m from the Futurea near-perfect rating of 4/5 and says, “As an excellent mix of comedy and science fiction, neither overwhelms the other genre, even with the odd friendship paring and doomsday looming.”
The Spool’s B.L. Panther meanwhile says, “Filled with ironic humor, a delicious villain turn from Janine Theriault, and a madcap laissez-faire attitude toward physics,Relax, I’m From The Futureremains a gentle and profound project about our present.”
Finally, Collier Jennings of But Why Tho? A Geek Community offers another wonderful rating of 8/10 and says, “A rather unorthodox time travel comedy with a heartfelt message buried under its deceptively simple narrative.”
Relax, I’m from the Futurehad its world premiere last month at Montreal’s Fantasia Fest, and will be opening in North American theaters on August 12, 2025, via Blue Fox Entertainment.
