When the highly-anticipatedGhostbustersreboot hits theaters next year, fans will get to see the original starsBill Murray,Dan Aykroyd,Ernie HudsonandSigourney Weaverin cameo roles, portraying completely different characters. One of the original stars who won’t be coming back isRick Moranis, who hasn’t appeared in an on-screen role since 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. During a wide-ranging interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, the actor debunked rumors that he has retired, adding thatPaul Feigoffered him a cameo in hisGhostbusters reboot, but he wasn’t interested.

“I wish them well. I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago? I took a break, which turned into a longer break. But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role, and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it. [ButGhostbusters] didn’t appeal to me.”

Rick Moranistook a hiatus from acting in 1997, after his wife Ann died of breast cancer, to focus on raising his two children. He did lend his voice to animated projects like Disney’s 2003Brother Bear, but the 2006 sequel Brother Bear 2 was the last film or TV project he has worked on. The actor has since kept busy performing for radio commercials airing in Canada and releasing comedy album’s like 2013’s My Mother’s Brisket. He also commented on Hollywood’s fascination withsequelsandreboots, adding that he will still continue to be very picky when selecting his projects.

“It’s hard to come up with original material. Occasionally, they get it right or else they wouldn’t attempt to do these things. I’m surprised that Disney hasn’t done Honey, I Shrunk the Grandkids. But I’m happy with the things I said yes to, and I’m very happy with the many things I’ve said no to. Yes, I am picky, and I’ll continue to be picky. Picky has worked for me.”

Rick Moranisplayed Louis “The Keymaster” Tully in the originalGhostbustersand the 1989 sequelGhostbusters 2. TheGhostbustersreboot managed to add bothErnie HudsonandSigourney Weaverfor cameos just beforeproductionwrapped last month, but for fans hoping for Louis Tully’s return, sadly that will not happen.
