Witness brothers Moses and Ramses facing off once again when directorRidley Scott’shistorical epicExodus: Gods and Kings(2014) begins streaming absolutely freeDec. 1 onTubi.Christian Bale and a bald Joel Edgerton lead the Biblical epic, which failed to find its footing with either the critics or fans when the movie parted the Red Sea in theaters 10 years ago. This undervalued historical flick also represents one of Scott’s lower-rated ventures on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the time of this writing,Exodus: Gods and Kingsregisters a mere 30% on the Tomatometer against 207 reviews posted toRotten Tomatoes.Likewise, fans didn’t find much to praise either, because the Popcornmeter, formerly the RT audience score, sits at a disappointing 35% on the strength of 50,000+ ratings. However, with a stronger “B-” CinemaScore,Gods and Kingsmanaged to almost double its budget. It cost $140 million to produce Scott’s 2014 film, not accounting for its advertising and marketing campaign, butExodus: Gods and Kingsmanaged to make $268.2 million worldwide.

The movie is much more intriguing than any of its scores would indicate, and there are certainly some extravagant set pieces featured throughout, with Tubifeaturing many other Ridley Scott titlesto stream for free. Some of those includeBlack Hawk Down, Someone to Watch Over Me,andMatchstick Men,all of which boast higher Rotten Tomatoes scores thanGods and Kings.
Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator II’ Is Now Thriving at the Box Office
Exodus: Gods and Kingscracked the Netflix Top 10back in January 2024 when it dropped at No. 4 on the streaming service with close to 19 million hours viewed. So, there’s certainly an audience for Ridley Scott’s underrated film, which should flourish on Tubi as a free offering. Today, though, all the buzz swirling around Scott has nothing to do withGods and Kingsand everything to do with the long-awaited sequel toGladiator(2000). And the film is impressing on all fronts thanks in part to its awe-inspiring production design.Gladiator IIstar Pedro Pascal describes the grandeur of the historical epic’s sets in a new interview by saying (perParamount Pictures):
“Arthur Max’s production design is of a caliber that is incomparable. I’ve been on some major sets, [but] I’ve not been on a set like this. Arthur has created the real thing.”

Gladiator IIis thriving at the box office after its first weekend of release, even though Scott’s sequel got caught up in the Oz-sized tornado of No. 1Wicked. Regardless, though, the Denzel Washington and Scott collaboration propelled off the strength of its $55 million opening-weekend (perThe Numbers) domestically toward a worldwide total of $232.4 million, at the time of this writing. Washington also chimed in on the epic production design in the same interview by saying, “This is the biggest film I’ve been on. It’s Cecil B. DeMille on steroids.”
All 9 of Ridley Scott’s Historical Films, Ranked (Including ‘Gladiator II’)
Ridley Scott’s fondness for historical movies has seen him make several of them, notably Gladiator. So, which is the best?
Armed with an 83% Popcornmeter rating, formerly the Rotten Tomatoes audience score, and a comparable “B” CinemaScore,Gladiator IIshould continue to attract audiences during its second weekend of release. However, even withthe five-day Thanksgiving holidayin play, expect theGladiatorsequel to come in third place, asMoana 2’sdebut will in all likelihood lock down the No. 1 slot for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest Disney film.

Meanwhile, last week’s No. 1Wickedlooks to lock up No. 2 at the box office over the Turkey Day celebrations across the United States. However, whileGladiator IIwill offer fans a more adult choice to enjoy,Moana 2andWicked’srespective family-friendly appeals will draw larger audiences to close out the month of December. But for those not wanting to brave the cinema crowds, Scott’sExodus: Gods and Kingsstarts streaming Dec. 1 on Tubi.
