Last week, more casting information fromCaptain Marvelwas finally revealed. Among some newcomers, Marvel fans were excited to see that Lee Pace’s name was on the list. Pace will reprise his role as Ronan the Accuser fromGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, leading into speculation thatCaptain Marvelwill be somewhat of a prequel to the Guardians franchise. Many comic fans were disappointed about how Ronan was utilized in James Gunn’s first Guardians movie, so hopefully he’ll get a better role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this time around.
In a recent interview promoting his new Broadway show Angels in America,Lee Pacewas asked about returning forCaptain Marvel. Obviously, Pace was tight-lipped on the details surrounding his return to the MCU, but he confirmed the news and mentioned howhappy he is to be returning. The actor claims to not know anything about the upcoming movie. He had this to say.
“I know nothing. I don’t know anything. I wish I could tell you all the secrets, but I don’t know any secrets! I’m excited to be back.”
Lee Pace will return alongside hisGuardians of the Galaxyco-star Djimon Hounsou, who is reprising his role as Kree mercenary Korath the Pursuer. Ronan and Korath are both members of the alien Kree race and served Thanos inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1.Captain Marveltakes place in the early 90s, allowing both of them to return. Both characters are popular in the comics and it was seen as kind of a waste to have them introduced and killed in the first Guardians movie, so the return inCaptain Marvelshould see the duo back in their element, in an even more sinister way than what was previously seen.
Captain Marvelis currently filming in the Los Angeles area, but Lee Pace has not joined the rest of the cast and crew on set yet. But we’ll know when he’s on set since Pace will have to endure hours at the makeup chair and be shown under all of the blue and black makeup that he has to wear every time he’s on screen. Marvel fans wanted to see more ofRonan the Accuseron the big screen and when James Gunn was asked if he’d return for the 2nd installment of Guardians, he said no, but also said that he could possibly pop up again somewhere down the line.
Lee Pace is excited to be back as Ronan, but probably not anywhere near as excited as Marvel fans are.Captain Marvelwas already a movie that fans were looking forward to, but now that excitement is on another level. Will we possibly see some Guardians of the Galaxy cameos from theearly 1990sas well? It’s too early to tell, but it could very well end up happening in small cameos.
