Academy Award winner Russell Crowe will soon join Sony’sSpider-Manspinoff universe in the upcomingKraven the Hunter, and the actor has now teased the “unexpectedly dark world” that the Marvel supervillain will inhabit. Speaking withComic Book Resources, Crowe revealed that he still has a few more scenes to shoot forKraven the Hunter, and that director J.C. “I haven’t seen it. I haven’t seen it, but I know that we’re going through another round of shooting soon. I’ve got a scene to do in a couple of weeks. I’ve talked to J.C. Chandor, the director. He’s really excited about what he’s got in front of him and really excited about the way people will receive it. I think I can sort of pass on that one of the things he said that it’s just an unexpectedly dark world.”

The Pope’s Exorcist movie with Russell Crowe

Directed by J. C. Chandor (Triple Frontier) from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk,Bullet Trainstar Aaron Taylor-Johnson will leadKraven the Hunteras Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven. Not much has yet been revealed regarding the plot ofKraven the Hunter, but Taylor-Johnsonhas described his take on the characteras a conservationist and a “protector of the natural world.” Which suggests that the movie will transform the Spider-Man villain into more of an antihero similarly to prior spinoffsVenomandMorbius.

While unconfirmed, Crowe is expected to portray Kraven’s father, Nikolai Kravinoff, with the rest of the cast including Ariana DeBose as Calypso and Fred Hechinger as Dmitri Smerdyakov aka Chameleon, as well as Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Levi Miller.

Kraven the Hunteris scheduled to be released in the United States on August 04, 2025.
