The story broke thanks to an excerpt from Neill’s upcoming memoir, which included a mention that he has beentreated for stage three blood cancer. According to the actor, the memoir was written while he was undergoing treatment and had little else to keep him occupied. However, theJurassic Parkstar has spoken out to clarify the misconception that the health issue is a current concern. In a video on hisInstagramaccount, Neill said:
“And my news seems to be all over the news at the moment, and it’s sort of ‘Cancer! Cancer! Cancer!’ Which is slightly tiresome because as you see, I am alive and well and I have been in remission for eight months, which feels really good. And I’m alive and kicking and I’m going to work. I’m very happy to be going back to work.”
Neill’s video seems to have been made for fans who have been very concerned about the much-loved actor’s health after the snippet from the memoir went viral. It appears that while the actor has undergone treatment, it has been successful, and, as he has noted, he has been in remission for some time now. This will be good news for all his supporters and followers.

Sam Neill Wrote His Memoir While Unable to Work
It is somewhat ironic that no one was aware of Sam Neill’s cancer diagnosis while he was undergoing treatment and only found out afterward due to him writing his book while having that treatment. In his video, he also explained how the writing of the book came about. He said:
“So here I am, and I just wish the headline wasn’t ‘that thing’ so much, because the main thing is that I have written this book, it’s called ‘Did I Ever Tell You This?’. And it does mention cancer because that’s the sort of context in which I wrote it. But I didn’t really mean to write a book, I needed something to do while I was undergoing treatment, and I am used to going to work and I suddenly couldn’t go to work. So that’s why I wrote the book, and I have to see there’s been a great response to it. People seem to love it, which is great.”
Despite having had his treatment and written his book, it was hard to notice that Neill had taken a step back from acting, having appeared prominently as Dr. Alan Grant inJurassic World: Dominionand making another appearance as an Odin impersonator inThor: Love and Thunder.This year is no different, as Neill will soon be seen in the comedy thrillerThe Portable Doorand on Peacock’sApples Never Fallwith Annette Benning.
All of this indicates that, even at 75 years old, Neill’s health is not a significant concern, and he still has plenty more to give his fans. Neill’s memoir,Did I Ever Tell You This?is released on Mar. 21, whileThe Portable Doorarrives on Apr. 7.
