What Is Sausage Party: Foodtopia About?
Created by Seth Rogenand Evan Goldberg as a direct sequel to the 2016 film,Sausage Party, Sausage Party: Foodtopiais a Prime Video original animated series that debuted on July 07, 2025. The returning characters include Frank (Rogen), Brenda Bunson (Kristen Wiig), Sammy Bagel Jr. (Edward Norton), Barry (Michael Cera), and Kareem Abdul Lavash (David Krumholtz). When a massive deluge threatens to wipe out their heavenly food-based utopia, Frank and his friends must unite with humanity to prevent damage.
New characters added to the story include human hostage Jack (Will Forte), the dictatorial Orange Julius (Sam Richardson), Jeri Rice (Stephanie Beard), Box of Crackers (Natasha Rothwell), and others. One of the funniest running gags in the show concerns Jack, whose alliance with food forces him to become a cannibal. In Episode 4, “Fourth Course,” Frank and Brenda give Jack a human foot to dine on, leading to a wildly unexpected riff on the teary-eyed final scene in the tender and touching romantic coming-of-age drama,Luca Guadagnino’sCall Me By Your Name.

What Is Call Me By Your Name About?
Released in 2017,Call Me By Your Nameis a gorgeous romantic story about Elio (Timothee Chalamet), a teenager who experiences his first sexual awakening in Italy during the summer in the 1980s. Despite the statutory impropriety of their age differences, Elio meets a dashing older man named Oliver (Armie Hammer), and the two experience a heartfelt romance in the Italian countryside. The aching intimacy forged between Elio and Oliver becomes so strong that, amid heated passion, one asks: “Call me by your name, and I’ll call you by mine.”
By summer’s end, Elio’s youthful innocence and romantic naivety are crushed by Oliver returning home to the United States. Months later, Elio receives the news that Oliver is engaged despite never mentioning having a girlfriend back home.Call Me By Your Nameconcludes with an unforgettable image of Elio heartbroken, weeping before a fireplace as Sufjan Stevens' melancholic song “Visions of Gideon” plays softly over the credits. Based on the film genre, and the tone and tenor of the crushing final scene, nobody expected Call Me By Your Name to be lampooned inSausage Party: Foodtopia.

How Sausage Party: Foodtopia Parodies Call Me By Your Name
After using Jack as an unwitting human pawn to protect their race, Frank and Brenda decide to kill him. Jack is taken to Burning Man to be sacrificed but narrowly escapes death after giving Frank and Brenda helpful advice. However, Frank and Brenda fake Jack’s death and force him to hide out. That’s when they give him a human foot to eat, which he saves as a last resort. When Barry discovers Jack’s footprints, Jack is left with no choice but to eat the human foot given to him by Frank and Brenda.
In “Fourth Course’s” final moments, Jack weeps by the fireplace as he reluctantly takes a bit out of the human foot and sadly utters: “Well, I guess that seals it. I’m a cannibal now.“As Jack cries on and continues to eat the foot, Sufjan Stevens' haunting refrain from “Visions of Gideon” plays in the background. With a similar camera framing toCall Me By Your Name, flickers of light from the fireplace illuminate Jack’s tears just as they did Elio’s.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Cast & Character Guide
Just as raunchy as its predecessor, the latest series is full of eclectic, foul-mouthed characters.
However, instead of lampooning Chalamet’s Elio, the cannibal reference is a clear spoof ofCall Me By Your Namecostar Armie Hammer’s notorious off-screen transgressions. Regardless, fans of the originalSausage Partynever could have anticipated the TV sequel to poke fun atCall Me By Your Name. Seth Rogen even admitted how difficult it was to get permission to make such an elaborate joke.

While promoting the showvia Cinema Blend, Rogen admitted:
“That was actually a very hard song to clear. We had to go to Luca Guadagnino and Sufjan Stevens both to personally sign off on the scene. And I like, love these artists. You find yourself in a situation where you’re explaining, ‘So, we love your films. The joke is that he’s eating a foot and he’s crying. It’s the same shot as Call Me By Your Name, and the credits are rolling. It’s not easy to get those people to sign off on that stuff, but they have a better sense of humor than you would think about things.”
Only time will tell if Season 2 ofSausage Party: Foodtopiawill feature similar unexpected movie spoofs. Until then, Season 1 is available to stream on Prime Video.
