Guillermo del Toro’sScary Stories to Tell in the Darkwill officially hit theaters on August 9th, 2019.Guillermo del Torois on board as producer and co-writer and ready to bring some of the creepiest urban legends to the big screen. Norwegian filmmaker Andre Ovredal is taking on the directorial duties, which started filming in August and wrapped in late October, In addition to the release date, the studio has also shared the official logo for the upcoming movie and a picture from the set.
TheScary Stories to Tell in the Darklogo is keeping Stephen Gammell’s design alive. It’s just a little tease, but it’s staying in therealm of the source material, which fans should find to be pretty cool. As for the picture from the set, it features Guillermo del Toro star Zoe Margaret Colletti and director Andre Ovredal. We’re still hoping to get some official confirmation about the specific story details from the big screen adaptation, as the studio and crew are keeping their lips sealed.

TheScary Stories to Tell in the Darkmovie willcenter on a group of teenswho are forced to solve the mystery of some recent brutal murders in their town. It has also been rumored that the human scarecrow from the Harold story and the girl who has spiders crawl out of her face inThe Red Spot storywill be involved in the movie, but that has yet to be officially confirmed at this time. Both of the aforementioned characters appeared in 1991’s Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones.
Guillermo del Toro has wanted to make theScary Stories to Tell in the Darkmovie for quite a while now. In 2013, CBS Films acquired the rights to theAlvin Schwartz’s children’s book serieswith the intention of making a big screen adaptation. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that it was announced that del Toro was attached to direct. It was later revealed that del Toro was stepping down from directing and taking on the producer/co-writer role for the adaptation while Andre Ovredal stepped up to helm the horror project.

In addition to theScary Stories to Tell in the Darkmovie, there is also a documentary about the iconic book series coming next year. Cody Meirick partially crowdfunded and directed the doc, and it features interviews with Alvin Schwartz’s family members, folklorists, and R.L. Stine, who created theGoosebumpsfranchise. There is no release date set for the documentary, but it looks like 2019 is going to be an awesome year forScary Stories to Tell in the Darkfans.
