During theStar Trekuniverse panel that took place Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, the trailer forStar Trek: Lower Decksseason three was unveiled! In addition to more hints about what might take place in the wake of the arrest of USSCerritosCaptain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) at the conclusion of the animated comedy’s second season, the trailer also confirmed that we’d be revisiting the eponymous setting ofStar Trek: Deep Space Nine. Furthermore, it’s been hinted that we could be seeing some “familiar faces” during the visit!
Technically, we’ve already seen Deep Space Nine ofLower Decks, but only in a flashback. During the season one episode “Cupid’s Errant Arrow,” a flashback showed a younger version of Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) enjoying a drink on the space station.
Then in the season two episode “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris,” Mariner confirmed in dialogue that she had been previously assigned to the station. And although it was a toy rather than the station itself, in the season two episode “An Embarassment of Dooplers,” Ensign D’Vana Tendi (Noël Wells) gifted Ensign Samathan Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) a Quarks-branded model of Deep Space Nine.

Could Quark Appear on Lower Decks?
Speaking of Quark (Armin Shimerman), the Ferengi is one of the characters fromDeep Space Ninewho seems most likely to appear in theLower Decksepisode, given that he was still living and working on the station at the conclusion of the series. Also still present was his brother Rom (Max Grodénchik) and Rom’s Bajoran wife Leeta (Chase Masterson). Furthermore, Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) and Doctor Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) also stayed on at the station, along with the son of the “late” Commander Sisko (Avery Brooks), writer Jake Sisko (Cirroc Lofton).
Other recurring main characters, like Miles O’Brien (Colm Meaney) and Worf (Michael Dorn) left Deep Space Nine in the show’s final episode. However, it is not outside the question that they could reappear, either on the station or elsewhere, especially given that Dorn is already slated to return forStar Trek: Picardseason three.
Finally, oneDeep Space Ninecharacter can already be glimpsed in the trailer: Martok, leader of the House Martok (J.G. Hertzler). However, this character left Deep Space Nine at the conclusion of the series to return to Qo’noS and become chancellor of the Klingon Empire.
