Love is in the air, but who’s really falling for who inShe Came to Me? Steven (Peter Dinklage) is a composer with a severe case of writer’s block. What’s worse, though, is that his relationship with his wife Patricia (Anne Hathaway) has lost all its fervor. However, when Steven meets tugboat operator Katrina (Marisa Tomei) in a bar, and is later seduced by her, passions overflow in complicated waves during the first trailer forShe Came to Me. Check out the brand-new footage below:
Rebecca Miller wrote and directed the romantic drama. And while the film deals with the sexual appetites of casual lovers and the monotonous sinkholes lengthy relationships can fall into, the filmmaker found her inspiration forShe Came to Mecloser to home. Miller said recently in an interview withEntertainment Weekly:

“My youngest son is studying to be a composer and we discovered opera together. To be honest, I had never liked opera much, but we went to the Met and started with La Bohème, which is a great first opera — so emotional, with gorgeous music — and I was converted right there. Then we started going to more challenging operas, and newer operas. And I started wondering what it was like to be a composer of new operas.”
Miller now has seven writing credits to her name, but she’s also appeared as an actress in several high-profile Hollywood movies. She played Linda in the Harrison Ford-ledRegarding Henry, Kay inConsenting Adultsand portrayed a receptionist in Warren Beatty’s 1994 remake ofLove Affair.

Even The Boss Got Involved With She Came to Me
Right away, it’s obvious that Dinklage’s Steven and Patricia, played byAnne Hathaway, are going through a rough patch inShe Came to Me. When Steven suggests that it might be a good night for them to have sex, Patricia puts the kibosh on the idea because it’s Thursday. There’s an authenticity to the humor of that scene, and director Rebecca Miller wanted to capture that sense of realism in every way possible. Miller said in the same interview:
“As a director, I was obsessed with the idea that the character Steven Lauddem’s behavior in the film be authentic. And that real composers could watch the film and believe it, even as much of the film has an absurd quality. I find that when you burrow deep into real life, you come back with some crazy gems, because life is inherently absurd.”
She Came to Meis loaded not only with the talents of Dinklage, Hathaway and Tomei, but The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, got involved in Miller’s project. After seeing the film with his wife, Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen wrote the original songAddicted to Romancefor the movie. Miller also told EW:
“They watched it, and they loved it! I will never forget that phone call. Bruce and Patti were just over the moon about the movie. Bruce said to give him some time to see if anything came to him. It’s a song that seems like it could have existed forever, right out of the American Songbook. And the really extraordinary thing is, Bruce told me he hadn’t written in over a year, but the film inspired him to do so, parallel to the way Steven is unblocked in the movie. Again, the mysteries of creativity, and how we are all creating each other, day by day.”
Miller’s film had a completely different flavor to it, in terms of casting, in the early stages of development. Back in 2017 (perThe Hollywood Reporter) the original cast was announced as Steve Carell, Nicole Kidman and Amy Schumer.
She Came to Mehad its world premiereat the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival back in February, and opens exclusively in theaters on September 29.
