Black PantherdirectorRyan Cooglerhas found monumental success away from the MCU with this year’s vampire movie,Sinners. But, it turns out, the filmmaker wasn’t as far away from the world of Marvel as we first thought. Set in 1932 and starringMichael B. Jordanas twin brothers who return to their hometown to find it slowly being taken over by the undead,Sinnersshares a surprising connection to the best vampire hunter in the business,Blade. And it’s a connection you will have definitely missed.
The infamous challenge of gettingBladeback to the big screenis now well-documented, with the reboot, which is still set to star Oscar-winnerMahershala Alias the titular vampire hunter, having now gone through several different stories and directions. One such story involved taking The Daywalker back in time, and while this idea was eventually abandoned,Sinnerswas able to make good use of the costumes that had already been created.

Michael B. Jordan Reveals His Dream Project After ‘Sinners’ (And It Won’t Surprise Fans)
Michael B. Jordan fans know this has been a long time coming.
During an appearance on ScreenCrush: The Podcast!,Sinnersproducer Sev Ohanian revealed that acclaimed costume designer Ruth Carter, who previously worked on the likes ofBlack PantherandBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, had already crafted costumes forthe cancelledBladereboot, which at one stage would have been set (at least, part) during the same era asSinners.

“Ruth Carter was working on the Blade movie that ended up not shooting. At one point that movie was going to deal with, and she’s talked about this before, but at one point that film was going to deal with the past around the same era.
She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes, and it was like, ‘Yo, we got to shoot this movie like tomorrow.’ And Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price.”

Maybe Marvel Should Just Give ‘Blade’ to Ryan Coogler?
While theBladereboot is still going ahead (probably), with Ali in the lead, the road to getting there has been bombarded with bumps and barricades.Da 5 BloodsandSinnersstar Delroy Lindo, who was attached to co-star at one stage, hasdescribed the production as going “off the rails,”saying, “It was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails.”
As forSinners, Ryan Coogler has found huge success with the horror outing. An original film written and directed by Coogler, and starring Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo alongside Michael B. Jordan,Sinnerswas met with critical acclaim upon release (97% from critics and 96% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes), andwent on to gross $364 millionat the worldwide box office making it the highest-grossing live-action original film in more than a decade.
