Despite Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealing that movies will once again become a big focus of theStar Warsoutput of the future, there is clearly still a lot going on when it comes to Disney+ TV shows based in the world of the 45-year-old franchise. Although we are unlikely to see a sequel toSolo: A Star Wars Storyanywhere in those plans, the film’s writer believes that a continuation of sorts could be explored in one ofJon Favreau’s TV shows.
In 2018,Solo: A Star Wars Storywas thought to be the next big step in the Star Wars franchise, but instead it ended up being the final nail in the coffin for “prequel” movies. This meant that planned films based around Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader and more fell into a limbo that they would not return from, at least in movie form. However, the popularity of theObi-Wan Kenobiseries, and the announcement of many other live-action shows such asSkeleton Crew, Ashoka, and more, have led Solo writer Jon Kasdan to believe that Solo’s story may find a way to continue in such a TV series. He said duringStar Wars Celebration:
“I think someday we’re going to see what happened. And how Qi’ra sort of advanced through the world and through the crime syndicates. I’ve talked to Jon Favreau about it, and he’s a big fan of that movie and some of the stuff we built out, and I always say, ‘Well, you’re the guy to figure it out.’ So, I always look to him to keep the story alive and keep it going, and Star Wars is going in so many fun directions, and specifically like with… I saw that trailer for Andor today and I thought, ‘Enfys Nest is gonna show up somewhere in that show.’ So, I’m hopeful.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi’sPerformance Has Led to Rumors of a Second Season
As one of the potential movie projects derailed by the underperformance ofSolo, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s arrival as a Disney+ series has surpassed all expectations, with the seriesovertaking evenThe Mandalorianas the most-watched premiere of a Disney+ series. For this reason, there has already been a rumor that Lucasfilm is considering bringing Ewan McGregor’s Jedi back again for a second season, which would most likely take place somewhere between this series andA New Hope.
While that is something for the future, McGregor recently explained that despite being in a series format,Obi-Wan Kenobiactually plays out like one long movie. He previously said:
“The technology’s so different from when we made the [prequel] movies. It felt like a different experience anyway. But I don’t think it was because it was a TV show. The beauty of it being a series is that we’ve got longer to tell the story. But because [Deborah Chow] directed [all the episodes] and it’s her singular vision throughout, it did feel like we were making one movie. And the episodic nature of our series, it falls really cleverly in the storyline, but it is one driving narrative. I think ‘The Mandalorian’ feels more episodic, if you like, because it suits that storytelling. And, of course, [it] has a driving storyline through each season. But ours is like a movie that just happens to be split up into these episodes.”
