Footage fromSony Pictures’upcoming Spider-Man sequel,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, was recently shown to a lucky few at The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and while that footage has not yet made its way online, a piece of exclusive artwork shown at the event thankfully has.Depicting the Miles Morales versus Spider-Man 2099 battle that was teased in prior trailers, the artwork is just a taste of what’s to come from this hugely ambitious animated outing.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewill once again be led by Shameik Moore as Miles Morales AKA Spider-Man. A teenager who takes over as Spider-Man in an alternate universe where Peter Parker is killed, Miles was introduced to audiences in the 2018 Academy Award winner,Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The final moments ofInto the Spider-Versealso brought fellow variant Spider-Man 2099 into the fray. Voiced byMoon KnightstarOscar Isaac, Spider-Man 2099 will enter the multiversal madness rather quickly in a classic hero-versus-hero battle caused by a simple misunderstanding, and which concludes with the pair getting along and fighting the good fight together. Spider-Man 2099’s real identity is Miguel O’Hara, a brilliant geneticist living in an alternate New York City in the year 2099. Gaining his powers after attempting to recreate the abilities of the original Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099 will assist Miles Morales throughout his journey across the Spider-Verse.

Along with artwork, which demonstrates just a taste of the stunning animation that will be on display inSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,several details have also now emerged. We have all waited patiently to find out who will terrorize Miles and his Spider-Pals across the Spider-Verse,and it turns out that it will be lesser-known villain The Spot. Voiced byScott Pilgrim vs. The Worldstar Jason Schwartzman, The Spot has the ability to open inter-dimensional portals. Something which should come in handy in this mad world of multiverses.

As well as introducing The Spot,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewill add various other Spider-People to proceedings.Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versesees Miles Morales return for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, in an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

These Spider-People include Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy AKA Spider-Gwen, a super-heroine from another dimension; Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker AKA Spider-Man, an older, disheveled version of Spider-Man;Issa Rae as Jessica Drew AKA Spider-Woman, a pregnant woman with spider-like abilities; and Takuya Yamashiro as the “Japanese Spider-Man” from the 1978 Spider-Man series.

Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseis scheduled to be released in the United States on June 12, 2025, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse set to be released in March 2024.
