The cast ofSpider-Man: Brand New Daygrows every day, and now it appears that one of theThunderbolts*(aka The New Avengers) will be joining the cast. The Spider-Man sequel is currently filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and will be the next MCU film released, serving as the final installment beforeAvengers: Doomsday.Brand New Dayalready features several MCU fan-favorites joining Tom Holland, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / The Punisher. However, a recent rumor suggests that yet another popular hero is joining the film.
According toDaniel Ritchman, Florence Pugh will reprise her role as Yelena Belova inSpider-Man: Brand New Day. This is currently a rumor, as neither Sony Pictures nor Marvel Studios have confirmed it, and none of the official trades have picked up the story. Ritchman does not specify how big a role Pugh will have in the film, but if his report is true, this will mark her fourth MCU appearance after starring inBlack Widow,Hawkeye, andThunderbolts*. Pugh will also be seen inAvengers: Doomsday, making the team-up film her fifth time in the role.

Pugh potentially returning as Yelena Belova inSpider-Man: Brand New Dayis certainly interesting, as it gives new insight into both the Spidey sequel andAvengers: Doomsday. With Pugh currently filming bothDune Part ThreeandDoomsday, her time onBrand New Daymight be on the smaller side. She could even just be part of the film’s post-credits scene, possibly recruiting Spider-Man to join her and the New Avengers. However, that would also imply Holland’s Spider-Man is in theAvengerssequel, even though the actor was notone of the many namesmentioned in the initial casting announcement.
Is Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova the New Face of the MCU?
Florence Pugh is a rising starin Hollywood, quickly becoming one of Marvel Studios' most prominent actors since she was cast in 2021’sBlack Widowas Yelena Belova. While landing roles inDon’t Worry Darling,Oppenheimer,We Live in Time, andDune Part Two,Pugh has become a fan-favorite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, withThunderbolts*wisely centering her as the lead of the ensemble. Despite the lack of a central cast in the Multiverse Saga, Yelena’s recurring presence across various MCU titles suggests Marvel is positioning her as a key player in the franchise moving forward.
Spider-Man: Brand New Dayis certainly becoming a massive project, one that can rivalSpider-Man: No Way Home. Not only will the film include The Hulk, The Punisher, and now potentially Yelena, but Michael Mando willreprise his role as ScorpionfromSpider-Man: Homecoming. There are also rumored foes ranging from Tarantula to Mister Negative, while the main villain remains a mystery. Combining that with Sadie Sink’s mystery character,Brand New Daywill give fans plenty to speculate on for the foreseeable future.
