Star Trek: Discoveryannounces additional cast members joining the series. Shazad Latif will star as “Lieutenant Tyler,” aStarfleet officerin the Federation. Latif is known for his role as Dr. Henry Jekyll in the television seriesPenny Dreadful. Rekha Sharma will star as “Commander Landry,” the security officer of the Starship Discovery. Sharma’s television credits includeBattlestar GalacticaandThe 100.

Other new cast members include Kenneth Mitchell, who will star as “Kol,” a commanding officer in the Klingon Empire. Mitchell’s television credits include the fan-favoriteJerichoon CBS,The Astronaut Wives ClubandFrequency. Clare McConnell will star as “Dennas,” a leader in theKlingon Empire. McConnell’s film credits includeDim the Fluorescents, slated for release this fall. Damon Runyan will star as “Ujilli,” a leader in the Klingon Empire. Runyan’s television credits includeSuits,SupernaturalandGangland Undercover. Latif was originally announced in the role of “Kol,” now played by Kenneth Mitchell.

They join a cast that is lead bySonequa Martin-Greenas First Officer Michael Burnham, along with Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, the charismatic conman and intergalactic criminal first introduced in the original Star Trek television series. The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain aboard the Starship Shenzhou, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer and a new alien species to the Star Trek universe, Chris Obi as T’Kuvma, the Klingon leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses, Shazad Latif as Kol, the Commanding Officer of the Klingons and protégé of T’Kuvma and Mary Chieffo as L’Rell, the Battle Deck Commander of the Klingon ship. This new series will also feature the first openly-gay character, Lt. Stamets, played by Anthony Rapp, an astromycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Discovery, along withJames Frainas Spock’s father, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, captain of the Starship discovery, and Mary Wiseman as Tilly, a Starfleet Academy Cadet in her final year of study, assigned to the Starship Discovery.
