Star Trek: Picardpremiered its second season on Paramount+ at the beginning of the month and now filming has concluded on its third and final season, although that season is not expected to premiere until 2023. With the series coming to an end, the second and third seasons were shot concurrently, likely for the ease of having its 450 strong crew already assembled and as a cost saving measure to counter the usually high costs of making a science fiction series as well as additional issues faced due to Covid.

Patrick Stewartmade a successful return to theStarTrekfranchise in 2020, picking up the story of Jean-Luc Picard in 2399, twenty years afterStar Trek: Nemesis. Having retired from Starfleet and living in his family’s vineyard, the former Captain is soon pulled back into a new adventure. The show moved from CBS All Access to Paramount+ for its second season as the studio looks to bring home is various IPs to build up viewership of its streaming platform, and the third will also premiere on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Picard’s second season brought back somefamiliar faces with old enemies Q and The Borg playing pivotal rolesin the series. Where this will go in the third season is currently unknown, but with everything on the line and the series coming to final conclusion there will probably be some hard goodbyes coming for some well-loved characters. All of that is now in the can as co-executive producer Christopher Monfette shared the news on his Twitter account that filming is complete on what he called “a truly remarkable thing.” He wrote:

“And that’s a wrap on Season Three of #StarTrekPicard. As you watch and enjoy Season Two just know — the next and final chapter in Picard’s story is a truly remarkable thing. Beyond thankful to @TerryMatalas, the cast, crew and all our extraordinary writers who made it possible.”
