Warning: This article may contain spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4.
With an almost four-hour runtime,Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2arrived on July 1 to bring the penultimate season of the show to a shocking conclusion. New figures have now shown that during the week of July 4,Stranger Things 4pulled in 188.2 million viewed hours, and 117 million of that was down to the final two episodes. Having waited a long time for the series to return, the new season has not disappointed and brought Netflix some of its highest viewer numbers ever. With the season 4 tally now standing at 1.27 billion viewed hours across the nine episodes within the first 28 days, the numbers bode well for the upcoming final season of the series, which should arrive in the next two years.

Stranger Things 4has become the most watched English language show to ever stream on Netflix, and sits behind onlySquid Gamein the overall chart. Of course, with this being the fourth season of the show, there has been a surge in interest in the previous seasons ofStranger Things, which all jumped into the Netflix Top Ten most watched shows following the arrival ofStranger Things 4 Vol. 1at the end of May.
While it is unlikely thatStranger Thingswill manage to hit the same heights asSquid Game, it is pretty much untouchable when it comes to the competition below it. When it comes to the fifth season, theDuffer Brothers are currently ready to start workon the scripts with a view to filming next year. If everything goes to plan, the next season could be ready to go late in 2024, but as the Duffers have hinted that they won’t be rushing to get the final episodes out as quick as possible, it could be 2025 before we actually see how theStranger Thingsstory ends.

OneStranger Things4 Death Has Seen Fans Petitioning Their Return
The finale ofStranger Thingsdidn’t come with a vast amount of death for the main character, but a heroic turn by series newcomer Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, saw the fan-favorite making the ultimate sacrifice to help defeat Vecna and save Dustin and the rest of the gang. However, fans have been so distraught by the loss of the heavy-metal-loving D&D playing Eddie that they have started a petition to get him back.
There have currently been over 45,000 signatures added to the petition, which demands that Eddie should be brought back to the series in the final season, and not just in a flashback/cameo kind of way. The petition reads: “This is a petition I have started to bring back fan favorite Eddie Munson. The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed him off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness.”
While there is no way of telling what the Duffer Brothers have planned for the series finale, Quinn himself has made it clear that he would be more than up forreturning as Eddiein some way, and previously commented that “anything is possible” in the world ofStranger Things. However, with some theories suggesting that Eddie could return as a villain in the next season, fans may need to be careful what they wish for.
