Stranger Thingsis one of the biggest shows in the world, and the work that goes into crafting each season has grown exponentially since its 2016 debut. In Season 4, we saw multiple hour-and-a-half episodes, with the finale nearly reaching two and a half hours, longer than many films. According toGaten Matarazzo, who recently spoke toMovieWeb about hisLEGO Star Warsseries, we shouldn’t expect thefifth season ofStranger Thingsto drop the bar in quality at all. He explains:

In past seasons, it was always a six to eight-month shoot. When we started this one, they said to get ready for at least a year, so we knew it was going to be a really long filming process.

Matarazzo continues:

“We’re already in month eight, where we are usually wrapping up, and we still got so much to do, but it has really flown by. I think that’s the greatest challenge is trying to savor every moment, and as we’ve gotten towards the home stretch of filming this, it’s been really hard not to just cry all the time for how much we love the show and each other.”

Stranger Things Actor Brett Gelman Teases ‘Insane’ New Season

The comedic actor spoke to MovieWeb during the leadup to the release of his more serious TV show, Lake in the Lake on Apple TV+.

On what the audience should expect fromStranger ThingsSeason 5, Matarazzo shared, “It’s huge.I mean, we left Season 4 on an absolutely bonkers ending, very different from what we’ve seen the previous three seasons,” he says. “[Season 4] segues right into it.There’s no need for slow burn; we go right into itfor [Season 5]… It’s just characters kind of dealing with the fact that in the last season, there were small victories, but, ultimately, they seemingly lost the battle. It’s a matter of trying to pick up those pieces and start from scratch.” And with no set release date yet, fans will have to wait until sometime in 2025 to get theirStranger Thingsfix on Netflix.

Who Will Die in Stranger Things Season 5?

Stranger Things

Inspired by 80s pop-culture and elements of Stephen King’s works, Stranger Things is a supernatural action-drama TV series set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. When a young boy goes missing, his group of friends stumbles upon a young girl with telekinetic powers who recently escaped from a mysterious facility. They soon realize that she may be their only chance at stopping an impending doom that threatens to engulf Hawkins whole.

With shows likeThe Walking DeadandGame of Throneskilling major charactersseemingly every season, fans have been surprised by the relative safety thatStranger Thingshas provided through four seasons so far. The series began with Gaten Matarazzo alongside Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Milly Bobbie Brown, and Noah Schnapp, and so far, they are all still alive. That isn’t to say thatStranger Thingshasn’t had some memorable character deaths, but the main cast members from Season 1 make it out of seemingly every impossible situation alive.

Following the fourth season, Matarazzo, in an appearance at MegaCon Orlando, according toCBR, said, “It might sound messed up, but we should kill more people. This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like at any moment any of these kids can kick it. I feel like we’re all too safe.” Though fans would hate to see some of their favorite characters go, some agreed with his statement. MovieWeb recently asked Matarazzo if he still felt the same and whether the stakes would be raised in Season 5.

“I think that’s just a general feeling I have for shows…I feel way more invested in a group of people if I think there’s a potential to lose them. And I think once we go into Season 5 and we see how high the stakes are, we see truly what they are getting themselves into and realize thateverybody is in constant, imminent danger. I think that’s going to make for a really compelling, fun season — a real nail-biter, for lack of a better term.”
