Ever sinceSupermanhit theaters, Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen has become a fan favorite, and the character was immediately singled out for a spin-off series. The television show is rumored to feature Olsen conducting profiles on many iconic DC villains, thereby helping to expand the history and roster of the DC Universe. A new rumor circulating suggests that theSupermanoffshoot could be the official DCU introduction of a villain previously teased inCreature Commandos.
Industry Insider Jeff Sneider is reporting that Gorilla Grodd will appear in the planned Jimmy Olsen series. Grodd was previously teased inCreature Commandosin Circe’s vision of the future to Amanda Waller, which alsoshowcased the first glimpses of the DCU’s Wonder Woman and Batman. As of this writing, this is only a rumor, since the existence of a Jimmy Olsen show has not been confirmed by DC Studios or Warner Bros.

James Gunn Justifies ‘Superman’s International Box Office Failure: “Superman Is Not a Big Known Superhero”
James Gunn has a very unexpected justification for ‘Superman’s underwhelming international box office.
Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, Gorilla Grodd first appeared inThe Flash#106 in May 1959. Grodd is one of the most famous villains in both the Scarlet Speedster’s rogues’ gallery and in the entire DC Comics universe. Grodd is a super-intelligent gorilla who has the ability to control people’s minds and, across the DC Universe, has served on teams like the Legion of Doom and the Injustice League. Grodd was famously voiced by Powers Boothe in theJustice LeagueandJustice League Unlimitedseries. He also appeared on The CW’sThe Flash, making at least one appearance per season.

Why a Jimmy Olsen Show Is a Great Idea
Since the news of a Jimmy Olsen series first emerged, some fans have been skeptical. Despite Jimmy Olsen having led his own comic,Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, for decades, many audiences struggle to understand why a supporting character with no powers would receive a spin-off series over established superheroes. However, a Jimmy Olsen series would be a nice change of pace from the traditional superhero series action formula. It could also give a platform to not just Skyler Gisondo’s amusing new take on the character, but potentially spotlight the other Daily Planet supporting cast members like Cat Grant, Steve Lombard, Ron Troupe, and Perry White.
Having a Jimmy Olsen series focused on different villains is also a genius move to expand the DCU’s roster of characters. It not only opens the door to establishing characters that could be featured in other DC projects, like Gorilla Grodd, but could also be used to bring back some members fromThe Suicide Squadlike Bloodsport, Ratchcatcher II, or even Harley Quinn.Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsenis also the comic thatintroduced the iconic villain Darkseid, and it would be appropriate if his “controversial” spin-off series were the project that brought one of the most dangerous foes into the DCU.
