This year’sArrowversecrossover event just got a whole lot more interesting.Arrowstar Stephen Amell has revealed that Superman will rock his iconic, and not to mention significantly important, black suit in the upcomingElseworldsevent. What does this mean for the story? That’s tough to say as of yet, but DC fans undoubtedly know that it is a key development.
Arrowstar Stephen Amell revealed the image on Twitter. We see Tyler Hoechlin’s version of the Man of Steel standing between the aforementioned actor and Grant Gustin, who stars as Barry Allen onThe Flash. All three of them appear to be brimming with excitement as Hoechlin, jet-black hair and all, is standing there in the all black suit, which looks to be pretty faithful to what was seen in the pages of DC Comics. There isn’t much else we can interpret from the photo, as no real set details or anything of the like can be gleaned from what’s there. But the black suit, in itself, is a more than significant enough reveal.
For those who may not be as familiar with the suit’s lore within DC Comics, it was introduced in theDeath and Return of Supermanstoryline during the 90s. Following the character’s death, he was eventually resurrected and, upon his return, was wearing the black suit in question. He also was featured with a pretty amazing head of long black hair, but it appears as though The CW is going to forego that detail for thisElseworldsevent. So does this mean that Superman will die and come back to life in the crossover? The title implies that we could be visiting some alternate realities and maybe one of those realities features the resurrected version of Superman? There are a lot of possibilities to consider here.
It’s also significant because the black Superman suit was, so it seemed, set to be a part of Zack Snyder’s version ofJustice League. Ultimately, it didn’t make the cut and a deleted scene only teased the suit. Henry Cavill never got to actually wear it. Instead, that honor goes to Tyler Hoechlin. That has provided yet another reason that this year’s Arrowverse crossover will be essential viewing for DC fans. Elizabeth Tulloch will also be making her debut as Lois Lane, who has yet to appear in this universe thus far.
The other big reason is that Ruby Rose is set to make her debut asBatwoman, which will serve as the character’s live-action debut. The CW recently revealed the first image of Rose in costume. The idea is that the crossover will be a launching pad for aBatwomanTV series. TheElseworldscrossover, which will be a three-night event blending the worlds ofThe Flash,ArrowandSupergirl, kicks off on Sunday, December 9.
