Before making his DC debut inSupermanthis summer, Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult had a fan-favorite superhero role in the Fox-era of theX-Menmovie franchise. WithAvengers: Doomsdaybringing backthe mutant crew, speculation has risen on his potential return, but it seems Marvel fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly,Supermanstar Nicholas Hoult talked about the return of the X-Men inAvengers: Doomsday. Hoult, who played Beast inX-Men: First Classand subsequent films, was asked about possibly reprising his fan-favorite mutant role. He responded with a simple “No,” but went on to explain how Kelsey Grammar’s version of the character is the one he grew up with and shared his excitement aboutDoomsdaybringing back the original X-Men cast.

“Kelsey was a great Beast. He was the Beast I saw when I was a kid, along with the other actors that they’re bringing back, Patrick and Ian and James and all them.
“Those were the characters that I got to watch in X-Men movies. I’m excited to see what they do with it. It’ll be fun to see how they incorporate those characters into that world.”

Former MCU Star Teases Unexpected ‘Avengers’ Return & Possible Wolverine Team-Up
One Marvel Studios alum has provided a cryptic tease about their appearance in the next ‘Avengers’ films alongside one X-Men legend.
After Grammar showed up as a comic-accurate Beast in the post-credits scene ofThe Marvels, many assumed that the MCU would continue to introduce other characters from the same timeline. However, since anything is possible in the multiverse, Hoult ruling out his own return is a disappointing development. There is a chance that he is not telling the whole truth, which is often the case for superhero actors, but there is plenty of reason to believe that he won’t return. The rest of the X-Men cast featured inAvengers: DoomsdayincludeIan McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. The upcoming MCU crossover event film will focus on the older, original actors from the first X-Men movies.

Why Nicholas Hoult Lost Out on Main ‘Superman’ Role
In an interview with Jake’s Takes,Supermandirector James Gunn revealed the casting process behind the film, including choosing who would don the Man of Steel suit. While Nicholas Hoult made it far in the pursuit to find the next Kal-El, Gunn revealed why he felt like David Corenswet was the better choice for his creative vision. Hoult becomingthe next Lex Luthorafter losing out on playing Superman was the perfect meta casting, but that was not the exact reason Gunn felt like Hoult was more suited for the villain role.
“A lot of time casting is finding the right person for the right role. Most people [auditioning for Superman] weren’t doing anything wrong, they just didn’t fit how I envisioned this Superman to be. Nicholas Hoult auditioned. He’s a great actor. Some might say he’s better than David in certain ways, but he just didn’t fit the role. That’s why he didn’t get that.

“As much as you can transform yourself as a person, Nicholas is just more controlled. One of the things we were doing was mixing and matching Lois and Clark actors when we were auditioning them. I wanted to make sure we had that chemistry right. The truth is Nicholas, who is a more controlled actor, had a really good chemistry with another Lois who was less controlled. They were opposites. David had better chemistry with Rachel [Brosnahan] because she’s a very controlled actor and Davis is a little bit more loose. That creates a different dynamism on screen.”
