IsTarantino’s Star Trek Moviemovie really going to be R-rated? Not so fast. At least, ifSimon Peggis to be believed. Last December, news broke that Tarantino had pitched an idea for aStar Trekmovie to J.J. Abrams, who is responsible for the most recent series of movies, and Paramount liked the idea enough to move forward with it. At the time, it was said that the movie will be R-rated, but that may not be the case.

Simon Pegg has starred in all three of the most recentStar Trekmovies and actually co-wroteStar Trek Beyond. So he’s as connected as almost anyone with the franchise currently. Speaking recently at the Empire Awards, Pegg was asked aboutQuentin Tarantinoand his allegedly R-rated take onStar Trekand revealed that he doesn’t think the man behindPulp Fictionhas written an R-rated script. Here’s what he had to say about it.

“I don’t think he’s written an R-rated Star Trek script. I think what happened is he went to JJ with an idea that he has had for a while. I remember he told us about it a long time ago. I think he told me and Edgar [Wright] about it a long time ago. He just put it to JJ and JJ is consideringputting it into a writing room. We got an email just saying ‘Guess who came into the office the other day!’ So, I don’t know much about it, other than the fact that it is sort of in the mix. So, we will see.”

Specific details on thisStar Trekmovie have been quite scarce, but the R-rated bit seemed to be a sticking point for Quentin Tarantino. Every single one of his movies to datehas been R-ratedand, even if he’s playing in a franchise, it seems like his sensibilities would push it that way. Perhaps Tarantino just wants a guarantee from Paramount that, if the projects needs to be R, they won’t restrict him. Then again, Simon Pegg, as far as we know, isn’t actually involved with this particularStar Trekmovie, so he may not be up to date on what’s going on with the script and the development process.

The Revenantwriter Mark L. Smith has been hired to pen the script for thisStar Trekmovie, based on Quentin Tarantino’s idea. Tarantino is currently getting ready to shootOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood, which will take place in the late 1960s and involves the Manson family, with Margot Robbie being eyed to play Sharon Tate. Once that’s done, he doesn’t have any other directorial projects lined up.

Reportedly, if Quentin Tarantino ultimately likes the script for thisStar Trekmovie enough, he will actually direct it. It still hasn’t been revealed if this will take the place of what would beStar Trek 4, or if Tarantino willutilize the current cast membersfor his movie. We’ll have to see how this all shakes out but, according to Simon Pegg, it may not be set in stone that this movie is going to be R-rated. This news comes to us courtesy ofComicbook.com.
