Tell Me Liesfollows Lucy (Grace Van Patten), a newly single college freshman, and Stephen (Jackson White), an overconfident upperclassman, as they navigate the ups and downs of their toxic relationship. The show begins at a wedding four years after Lucy’s graduation before jumping back eight years to the fall semester of her first year away at college.

The death of Lucy’s roommate, Macy (Lily McInerny), at the onset of the school’s welcome week is the catalyst for how the characters become intertwined as the show progresses. However,Tell Me Liesdoesn’t center around Macy’s death. Rather, the involvement of those in Lucy’s newly formed circle of friends and their reactions to Macy’s death are major plot points that drive the story forward and creates quite a mess of events as the season ends.

Tell Me Lies Season 2: The Plot

Season two ofTell Me Liesis likely to up the ante after last season’s finale and will more than likely pick up where the previous season left off, past and present. The showrunner of the series, Meaghan Oppenheimer, has suggested things are going to get messier during the next season as the concept of revenge begins to take center stage as a main theme of the show. After watching Stephen leave a party hand in hand with Diana (Alicia Crowder), Lucy is sure to respond with the same kind of toxicity she experienced with Stephen throughout the entirety of the first season.

Given that season one left viewers on the edge of their seats with one of the biggest reveals of the season, the show will likely detail how Stephen and Lydia (Natalie Linez), Lucy’s hometown best friend, become engaged. Aside from the interpersonal drama between Lucy and Stephen, audiences can expect more regarding the events surrounding and proceeding Macy’s death. Drew’s (Benjamin Wadsworth) adjacent involvement with her car accident left him more depressed than ever, while Stephen’s direct involvement seemingly did nothing to weigh on his conscious. He’ll probably continue to be as terrible as ever.

While the first season was more about exploring toxic college relationships via Lucy and Stephen’s drama, the second season is sure to use that as a foundation to dive deeper into the concepts of revenge once we’ve realized how those relationships made us betray ourselves. Lucy is no exception to such visceral responses. How she manifests her feelings of revenge will be the interesting part throughout the upcoming season. By the end of season one, nearly every character inTell Me Lieswas on a pathway toward feelings of revenge. Where and how those feelings are directed will be left to explore in the show’s sophomore season.

Since viewers were given zero context as to how their relationship started, audiences can expect to see Lucy’s so-called best friend more throughout the upcoming season.

Lucy Tell Me Lies

It’s safe to say that anyone seen atthe weddingas well as the flashback scenes in college is likely to return, which includes the seemingly happy couple Bree, played by Catherine Missal, and Evan, played by Branden Cook. Spencer House, who portrays Wrigley, and Sonia Mena, who plays Pippa, were among the many wedding guests, so their return is likely to occur as well.

What seems uncertain is whether Benjamin Wadsworth, who plays Drew, will be returning. He wasn’t seen at the wedding, and there were indications that he might have died by suicide sometime after freshman year. Although, given that his whereabouts are unknown and need an explanation, viewers can anticipate some sort of return for the character.

While Alicia Crowder, who plays Diana, and Edmond Donovan, who plays Max, aren’t part of the core group of friends portrayed in the show, their return is also likely given their connections to Lucy and Stephen. Such returns will no doubt add fuel to the fire next season.

Release Date

Given the second season has yet to begin filming, the earliest fans can expect to see Lucy and Stephen’s drama grace the screen would be late 2023. However, such a premiere date is probably wishful thinking. It’s more likely the new season will air sometime in early 2024. The show’s freshman season took more than a year to begin streaming on Hulu after its August 2021 announcement, and season two is likely to follow the same pattern.
