Terminalwas announced way back in February of 2016. Now we finally have our first look at the noir fantasy, starring Academy Award nominated actressMargot Robbie. Vaughn Stein directed the thriller based on his own script, and it looks even darker than previously imagined. In addition to Robbie,Terminalalso stars Simon Pegg (Star Trek), Mike Myers (Austin Powers), Max Irons (The White Queen), and Dexter Fletcher (Kick Ass). The movie will hit theaters on May 11th, which is right in the middle of the 2018 blockbuster summer season.
Margot Robbie is featured in theTerminalteaser trailer walking through an ominous, twisting maze of corridors, narrating in a sinister voice, telling us to prepare for “a place like no other.” It’s a land full of “wonder,” which Robbie hints at in a dark tone, leaving one to think about the type of “wonder” she’s referring to. However, she adds that there’s “mystery and danger,” which fits the description of this new thriller perfectly. She finishes by saying, “Some say, to survive it… you need to be as mad as a hatter. Which luckily, I am.”
There’s parts of the short clip that look a little bit like hell inBill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The landscape is dark and mysterious, full of danger.Terminalfollowstwo assassins carrying out a sinister mission, a teacher battling a fatal illness, an enigmatic janitor, and a curious waitress leading a dangerous double life. Twisting consequences unravel in the dead of night as their lives intertwine at the hands of a mysterious criminal mastermind. When looked at through that lens, the trailer becomes even more unsettling and raw.
Terminalwas produced by Margot Robbie alongside Tom Ackerley, who previously worked onI, Tonyawith her, and Josey McNamara (Dreamland) under their LuckyChap Entertainment banner. This is Robbie’s second production credit and it looks nothing likeI, Tonyaat all. Her previous role as Tonya Harding was dark, but in a different tone thanTerminal, as you can see by the trailer. Margot Robbie could be channeling some of her inner Harley Quinn fromSuicide Squad, but in a less intense way, leading to mystery in her madness instead of beating the viewer over the head with it. Margot Robbie is said to be a “dynamic woman” in the movie, who is closer to the job than anyone knows.
As previously noted,Terminalwill hit theaters on May 11th, which places it right betweenInfinity WarandDeadpool 2. However, the tone of the movie willsatisfy a different audiencefrom the comic book crowd and may even see some overlapping. Hopefully the movie is as good as it looks.
