Just days after Paramount pushed their highly-anticipatedTerminator 6reboot from July 2019 to November 2019, a new cast member has been added.Scream QueensstarDiego Bonetais in negotiations to join franchise newcomer Mackenzie Davis andTerminatoricons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in this latest take on the Sci-fi property. With the release date delay, there is no indication as to when production may begin, but that may happen sooner rather than later, now that the cast is coming together.
While no character details have been confirmed, Diego Boneta is said to be playing a human character in the reboot, ruling out the possibility that he is a cyborg likeArnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 character. Mackenzie Davis joined the cast last month, with reports stating that she will be playing a “soldier-assassin from the future.” Previous reports have also claimed that the main protagonist will be a Latina character named Dani Ramos, a young woman in her early 20s from Mexico City who is more street smart than book smart, and has strong ties to her family.
Since Diego Boneta was born in Mexico City himself, it’s possible that he could have a connection to the main Dani Ramos character, although that has not yet been confirmed. Still, Boneta entering negotiations means that casting is still very much under way, and hopefully that will lead to more details revealed about these new characters. A report from last month revealed that producers have been undergoing, “an intense so far fruitless search to find a Latina for the story’s main role,” which would span all three movies of a proposed trilogy. There is no indication yet as tohow many movies both Mackenzie Davisand Diego Boneta will star in.
Tim Miller (Deadpool) is directing from a script that Billy Ray (The Hunger Games) recently came aboard to polish, based on a story concocted by Miller and producers James Cameron and Skydance Productions' David Ellison. This will be James Cameron’s first involvement with the franchise he helped create in several years. The filmmaker directed the original 1984 classic The Terminator, which he also co-wrote with Gale Anne Hurd, and he also directed the 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day, from a script he co-wrote with William Wisher. Cameron was not involved in the subsequent follow-ups Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator: Salvation and Terminator Genisys, with thistrilogy believed to ignore the storytold in those three movies.
