It’s time to jump back into shark infested waters, as the47 Meters Downfranchise is getting a third installment that’s set to start filming later this year.47 Meters Down: The Wreck, is launching at the Cannes market, and will be written by series creatorJohannes Robertsand screenwriter partner Ernest Riera, who penned the first two films. Roberts debuted the franchise back in 2017, and directed the first two entries. However, this time around, the third film will be helmed by horror veteranPatrick Lussier.
As perDeadline,47 Meters down: The Wreckis currently in the casting phase, and has been dubbed by Roberts as the “biggest in the franchise.” Allen Media Group Motion Pictures along with James Harris and Mark Lane’s Tea Shop Productions will be producing. Byron Allen of AMGMP calls the film “the perfect continuation.”

The moviewill focus on a father and daughterlooking to rebuild their fractured relationship while on a scuba diving trip, only to be trapped inside the labyrinth of a ship wreck while being hunted by a group of great white sharks. Check out the full synopsis below.
“The story will follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba diving trip in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. But soon after their descent, their master diver has an accident, leaving them alone and unprotected inside the labyrinth of the wreck. As tensions rise and oxygen dwindles, the pair must use their newfound bond to escape the wreck and the relentless barrage of bloodthirsty great white sharks.”
The 47 Meters Down Franchise Has Been a Huge Success
47 Meters Downearned $62 million dollars at the box office against a budget of just $5 million, while it’s sequel,47 Meters Down: Uncaged, earned $47 million against its budget of $12 million. Both films turned a profit, making the franchise one of the most lucrative in the sharksploitation sub-genre of horror movies. While criticshaven’t been kind to the films, they’ve obviously been a hit with moviegoers who continue to vote with their wallets, thus paving the way for the third installment.
Franchise creator, Johannes Roberts, says he can’t wait for audiences to"be trapped underwater"again. He says that47 Meters Down: The Wreckwill be the most “intense” entry in the series thus far, which is saying a lot given the nail-biting premises of the first two entries.

Best Shark Attack Movies (That Aren’t Jaws)
Jaws might be the most famous shark attack movie franchise, but there have been many other notable related movies made.
Even though Johannes Roberts won’t be in the directors' chair this time, the series is in good hands with Patrick Lussier, whose credits includeDracula 2000,Drive Angry,Play Dead, and the 2009 smash hit,My Bloody Valentine 3D, which earned over $100 million against a budget of just $14 million. It will be interesting to see his take on the popular franchise, as this will be his first time directingan aquatic-based horror film. Though if anyone can pull it off, it’s definitely Lussier.
