It’s finally here! Watch the first look atThe Angry Birds Moviecoming to theaters in May 2016! In this hilarious 3D adventure, we’ll finally find out why the birds are soangry. The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds…Or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
The Roviovideo gamehas been downloaded a massive 3 billion times since it launched in 2009, where users shoot a variety of different birds from a huge slingshot, into various structures that house green pigs, known as the Oinks, who have stolen these birds' eggs. Unfortunately, the game is short on back story, and all we know from playing the game is that these birds want their eggs back, and will crash into anything to make that happen. ProducerJohn Cohenrevealed that thisadaptationwill provide a long-awaited origin story, revealing how this rivalry between the birds and the pigs really started.
“The question Rovio gets more than anything is ‘Why are these birds so angry?’ This is the origin story for how that conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies.”
Back in October, Sony announced the fullvoice castfor Angry Birds, featuringJason Sudeikisas Red,Josh Gadas Chuck, andDanny McBrideportrays the volatile Bomb,Bill Haderas the pig leader Leonard,Maya Rudolphas Matilda, andPeter Dinklageas the legendary Mighty Eagle. Red is just one of many characters on an all-bird island, but unlike most of the birds, he gets angry at almost anything. Here’s what director Clay Kaytis had to say about whyJason Sudeikiswas perfect to voice Red.
“He’s a curmudgeon. We knew we had to find an actor who could say these things and still be charming, and that was Jason.”
The story centers on Red, Chuck and Bomb, who fight back when Leonard and his fellow pigs start raiding these birds' nests. The supporting cast includesKeegan Michael Key,Kate McKinnon,Tony Hale,Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo,Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Grammy nominee and Latin music sensation Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Andrew HecoxandAnthony Padilla).
