DirectorRupert Sandersalready has plans for a sequel to this year’s comic book movie reimagining,The Crow. But are we likely to ever see them? Speaking withVarietyrecently, the filmmaker revealed that he does have some big ideas for whatThe Crow 2and beyond could look like, with Sanders hoping to one day use some of the “cool” ideas that went unused in the first outing.

“It’s a hard one because it was such a love story between two people. There’s a lot of things that I had devised and thought about that were ideas within some of the drafts of the script, or some of the elements that I was putting together that were kind of cool, but felt like they weren’t ready yet. As far as his journey was, I love the idea of being able to move like Nightcrawler between the other world and this world, and how pulling people between, and the increased power of one side or the other — It’s fascinating.”

The Crow 2024

Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of THE CROW in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr. Soulmates Eric (Skarsgård) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

Sanders even revealed that “conversations” regarding moreThe Crowmovies have already happened. But, realistically, will those conversations continueconsidering the box officeandcritical response to his first effort?

“There have been conversations about it, and my mind at the moment is a bit of a … I’ve given all I can creatively. But I’m sure a couple of weeks sitting around doing nothing after the film’s been off my radar for a bit, I’ll start to get the itch and start thinking, ‘Maybe it could be…’ But we’ll see. If we’re lucky enough to have those conversations, it would be great. And I’m sure that collectively the team behind this could deliver something incredible for the next chapter.”

The Crow Has Seriously Struggled To Take Flight at the Box Office

As any realist (perhaps even cynical) movie fan will tell you: everything depends on box office. AndThe Crowhasseriously struggled to take flight financially. The movie was initially projected to gross between $6-9 million but has instead only managed to make around $4.6 million during its opening weekend. All of which suggests Sanders’ sequel ideas will remain unrealized.

The critics have not been kind to the movie either, withMovieWeb’s own Julian Romandeclaring that the reimagining “Falls Far Short of the Classic Original Film.”

“That said, it’s still a poor adaptation of James O’Barr’s comics. Fans who compare it to Brandon Lee (RIP) and Alex Proyas' 1994 masterpiece will be very disappointed. It’s not remotely a feather on that bird. As for where it stands against the other three terrible incarnations, that’s a discussion this reviewer gladly opts out of.”

The Crow’s Bill Skarsgård Voices Concern Over the Film’s Ending

The Crow star Bill Skarsgård revealed he has a different preference for the film’s ending.

Directed by Rupert Sanders from a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider,The CrowstarsBill Skarsgårdas Eric Draven, aka The Crow and FKA Twigs as Shelly Webster, as well as Isabella Wei as Zadie, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger, The Crow is based on the 1989 comic created by James O’Barr.
